Definition
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, the Lead Teacher is responsible for: planning, organizing, 
presenting, and modeling academic and instructional technology and providing professional development 
for teachers; planning, organizing, and facilitating district and state assessments. The employee is also 
responsible for assisting in the development of standard-based curriculum and assessment opportunities, 
aligning materials and resources to curriculum outcomes, and other teacher leadership responsibilities. 
Duties and Responsibilities
• Deals with student issues in cooperation with the principal, teachers, school counselor, social worker, and school nurse.
• Maintains and reviews student records related to support, attendance, and achievement.
• Collaborate with Curriculum Facilitator, meeting regularly.
• Collaborate with Instructional Technology Facilitator, meeting regularly.
• Communicates with all staff regularly. 
• Contacts parents as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Assists teachers in creating and developing Google Classroom, webpages, etc. to communicate with students and parents.
• Plan, develop, and execute special events, summer programs, and other related activities.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and or professional growth activities.
• Enforces school district and school policies and procedures (except suspensions).
• Assists in monitoring and supervision of facilities.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
• Assists with the supervision and monitoring of student activities such as before and after school, lunch, bus duty, class changes, assemblies, dances, and any extra-curricular activities.
• Coordinates credit and grade recovery.
• Develop partnerships to support career visits, and community involvement in school subjects.
• Lead Professional Development related to the curriculum and integration of all components including the best use of instructional technology.
• Co-teach and model lessons for all content areas.
• Assists in the development and usage of instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity.
• Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet the individual needs of teachers and students.
• Provides appropriate instruction and activities to assist teachers in meeting school/district policies, goals, and objectives.
• Creates an effective environment for learning through research-based best practices.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
• Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which s/he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
• Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records.
• Participates in faculty and/or district committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to develop and compile records and reports.
• Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, 
scanners, pencils, scissors, equipment for students, etc. 
• Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite 
characteristics of data, people, or things.
• Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, 
assignments, and/or directions from administrators.
• Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc. 
• Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, 
etc., using a prescribed format.
• Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. 
• Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing 
under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, and 
administrators.
• Ability to manage instructional time.
• Ability to manage student behavior.
• Ability to consult with parents, teachers, and the community to enhance the learning of students.
• Ability to monitor student performance.
• Ability to interact within the educational environment.
• Ability to perform non-instructional duties as assigned.
• Understands the growth and development of assigned students.
• Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
• Experience with Smartboard, Chromebooks, iPads, laptops, SmartNotebook, Makerspace, document 
cameras, and other instructional technologies. 
• Experience with Google Apps for Education.
Physical Requirements
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to 
finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee 
occasionally is required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. 
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral 
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to perform light work 
exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 
20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with record processes, and do extensive reading 
and research.
Minimum Education and Experience
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
• Must be fully licensed as a Teacher.
• Minimum of five years of public school experience as a teacher; experience in alternative settings 
preferred.
• Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core.
