Gaston County Government is Hiring a STD Tracer Near Gastonia, NC

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

  • Performs interviews people who have contracted or are identified as contacts to HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis C, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. Interviews are performed in the field (Gaston County) at the person's home or elsewhere in the community. Follows up on contacts and facilitates treatment with health department. Enters case notes into electronic systems: NCEDSS and CureMD.
  • Provides education on safe sex practices. Provides risk assessment to lower future exposures. Makes appropriate, patient-centered referrals for health department and community services. Educates patients on their legal responsibilities if HIV positive and has patient sign control measures if needed.
  • Assists patients in getting referrals for Hepatitis and HIV treatment and case management, counseling and other supportive services.
  • Education: Participates in yearly competency activities for all PHS Division staff. Participates in any in-service trainings, Public Health Law and STD Updates annually. Participates in all agency educational trainings, and all other PHS meetings. Completes and turns-in all required educational materials in a timely manner.
  • Performance Management: Carryout Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities, including identifying and communicating performance improvement opportunities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals.
  • Implement strategies aimed at achieving Health Equity, including but not limited to: attending trainings to better understand inequities, identifying and addressing barriers to health, serving on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees, engaging in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities.
  • As needed, assists in preparedness and emergency response activities in situations that threaten the public's health (i.e. disease outbreaks, natural disasters, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or related field with 1-2 years of experience is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

A valid CPR certification and driver's license are required.

Previous experience working with people in a community setting with HIV or STDs preferred.

Additional Information
Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $21.55/hr.

The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment

Pay: $18.35 - $31.19 per hour
