Structural Engineer College Station, Texas
As a member of Garver's growing College Station Water Design Center, theStructural Engineerwill be responsible for developing structural designs in support of water and wastewater treatment projects and related facilities. The Structural Engineer will work as part of a multi-discipline team to produce structural plans and specifications various Water Business Line projects.
Located in College Station, Texas, this role will consist of providing structural support as required for a variety of water and wastewater projects, but the majority of the expected assignments will be related to developing structural designs for new water and wastewater treatments plants or improvements to existing water and wastewater treatment facilities under the direction of the Structural Group Leader.
This position will perform numerous structural design tasks related to water and wastewater facilities, such as:
  • Producing structural designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, lift stations, tanks, vaults, and other ancillary structures associated with water and sewer infrastructure projects
  • Typical designs will include treatment process basins, chemical facilities, administration buildings, retaining walls, and other supporting structures.
  • Prepare structural design calculations, coordinate with other disciplines, and regional offices, construction cost estimating, and quality control.
  • Some travel may be required, as projects may require field work for site assessment of project locations and support during construction.
Primary responsibilities of the Structural Engineer will include:
  • Leading the production of structural designs under the direction of the Structural Group Leader
  • Quality program compliance, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization
  • Work within a multi-disciplined team (civil, process, mechanical, electrical, and I&C) of engineers, designers, and Technicians in the development of various Water Business Line projects
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Time management and work product quality
Due to the collaborative nature of coordination for large infrastructure projects, candidates must have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members. In addition, the candidate must be able to maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness to recruit, develop and maintain an efficient and productive structural team.
Water Design Center (WDC)
Staffed with multi-disciplined engineers, scientists, designers, and technicians, the WDC provides high-performance teams for technical expertise in all project areas to successfully deliver sound solutions and customized quality designs. The WDC was created to bring together every unique discipline necessary to design custom solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure, including civil, environmental, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, construction, applications, and operations. Having a focused team with in-person collaboration using the latest 3D and 4D BIM software leads to more efficient delivery, shorter design schedules, and lower change order percentages.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 5 years of technical experience in structural design engineering
  • Technically competent in structural engineering design in concrete, masonry, and structural steel
  • Proven experience producing structural designs, including detailed plans and specifications for major projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain a PE registration in Texas and other states of practice
Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Registration as a SE or be willing to take the NCEES Structural Engineer exam within 2 years
  • Working knowledge of Revit CAD programs
  • Structural complexities associated with water and wastewater treatment equipment
  • Working with a multi-disciplinary team comprised of process, structural, building mechanical, electrical, and Instrumentation and control disciplines.
  • Active participation in local professional trade organizations.
