Senior Civil Engineer

As part of the Garver Water Design Center (WDC) in College Station, TX, theSenior Civil Engineerwill be responsible for leading the civil design as part of a large multi-discipline design team on large scale water/wastewater treatment projects. A broad background in both site civil design and water and wastewater infrastructure design, specifically related to plants will allow this engineer the opportunity to be hands-on with design, directly involved with clients, provide mentorship to team members and actively participate in marketing initiatives.
What you'll do:
Generally, the responsibilities of this role will entail taking projects from conceptual planning to bid ready documents, including site civil layouts and design, coordination with other design disciplines, coordination with regional offices and regulatory agencies, as well as quality assurance and control. Ideal candidates shall be capable of completing civil designs including grading, paving, stormwater and yard piping routing and design for large, complex sites. In addition, candidate should also have a strong understanding of water and wastewater distribution and collection systems. The candidate should have a working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment facilities, processes and associated systems.
Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Developing civil designs for new water and wastewater treatments facilities
- Developing civil designs for improvements to existing water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Designing water and wastewater distribution and collection system improvements.
- Water and wastewater treatment plant site (yard) piping and utilities
- Site development including grading, paving, and stormwater drainage
- Site access, security and fencing for wide variety of secure facilities
- Site, earthwork and drainage design other than treatment facilities
- Managing a design team, coordinating schedules, monitoring budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization
- Be included in client meetings and serve as a subject matter expert for the Water Business Line
In addition, the Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for:
- Developing scope, schedule, level of effort, and fees for projects
- Managing, mentoring and professional development for civil team members
- Coordination with other WDC design and support disciplines
- Developing detailed plans and specifications
- Coordinating and maintaining project schedules
- Planning and monitoring budgets
- Quality program compliance, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization.
- Civil standards and tools development, procurement, and training in coordination with other WDC civil team members
Water Design Center (WDC)
Staffed with multi-disciplined engineers, scientists, designers, and technicians, the WDC provides high-performance teams for technical expertise in all project areas to successfully deliver sound solutions and customized quality designs. The WDC was created to bring together every unique discipline necessary to design custom solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure, including civil, environmental, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, construction, applications, and operations. Having a focused team with in-person collaboration using the latest 3D and 4D BIM software leads to more efficient delivery, shorter design schedules, and lower change order percentages.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 7 years of civil site design experience with no less than 2 years' experience in project leadership
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- Strong communication skills as required to manage project teams and maintain internal client relationships
- Experience with Autodesk software including Civil 3D
- Must have a basic understanding of the multi-disciplined practices (i.e. process, surveying, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & control) required for the implementation of water/wastewater infrastructure improvements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Preferred Attributes:
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license in several states
- Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering
- 15 years of civil engineering design experience with 5 years of experience in project/team leadership
- Experience using Bluebeam and MSOffice products, including Excel, Outlook and Word
- Cost estimation experience
- Use of AutoCad and/or Civil 3D software
- Good relationships with clients in WDC footprint
- Experience in giving presentations for clients and professional organizations
- Strong teaching and coaching skills to mentor and communicate with team members of all levels
- NCEES Registration
- Storm water design experience including HEC-RAS/HMS
- Experience with Bentley software to include MicroStation, InRoads, Hammer, WaterGems and SewerGems
- Experience with Innovyze software to include InfoWater and InfoSewer (within ArcGIS)
- Previous experience as manager in charge of civil or related design, including detailed plans and specifications, for major water and wastewater treatment plant improvements projects
