DETENTION OFFICER
The Detention Officer reports directly to the Detention Corporal and will provide the primary means by which inmates are supervised and cared for. A wide variety of duties fall upon this position to specifically and directly ensure the safe, secure, and legally based operation of the daily detention operations.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Work Conditions:
· Long hours – up to 12-hour shifts. Night shifts.
· Confined spaces
· Potentially stressful environment at times
· Structured work force with well-established chain of command
Performance Expectations
· Maintain the highest level of integrity and high level of ethical behavior
· Dedication to the task of providing secure custody and management of detainees
· Support and backup of fellow staff members
· Responsible, ethical, fair and consistent management of detainees
· Respectful, professional interaction with all occupants of the detention center.
· Reliable and timely in performance of duties
Qualifications and Credentials
· Professional minded individual.
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Physically able to stand for long periods of time.
· Physically able to perform self defense techniques when necessary.
· Physically able to lift up to 40lbs.
· Dedicated to the job and able to work flexible hours
· Able to respond to unscheduled work requests occasionally if needed.

· Patience
· Composure in stressful situations
· Able to take control of potential volatile situations
· Familiarity with Microsoft Suite Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
