Job Description: Medical Technician
SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Wellness Director, primary responsibilities include but are not limited to, administering medications to residents according to prescribed dosages and schedules. Working closely with wellness staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safe and effective delivery of medication to residents, being responsible for documenting medication administration, monitoring residents for any adverse reactions, and assisting with medication management tasks as needed are essential to this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Administer medications to residents as prescribed by their healthcare providers.
· Ensure accuracy in medication administration by verifying the resident's identity and checking medication labels against the medication administration record (MAR).
· Follow established protocols and procedures for medication administration, including proper storage, handling, and disposal of medications.
· Document medication administration accurately and promptly in residents' medical records.
· Monitor residents for signs of adverse medication reactions and report any concerns to the Wellness Director.
· Assist with medication management tasks such as ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies.
· Maintain a clean and organized medication cart or area and adhere to infection control protocols.
· Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, ensuring their comfort and safety.
· Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education programs to stay current on medication administration practices and regulations.
· Collaborate with other wellness team members to ensure comprehensive care and support for residents.
QUALIFICATION SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Completion of a state-approved medication technician training program.
· Current certification as a Medication Technician (if required by state regulations).
· Prior experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in assisted living, memory care, or long-term care community.
· Knowledge of medication administration principles, practices, and regulations.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
· Compassion, empathy, and patience in dealing with elderly residents and their families.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret company forms, signs, and product instructions.
· Ability to speak clearly and interpret verbal communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of the job successfully
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
· Manual dexterity and visual acuity for administering medications and reading medication labels.
