Garden Oaks Veterinary Clinic is Hiring an Experienced Veterinary Technician at Culture-Focused Practice Near Houston, TX

We care about our staff well being and believe that working four days per week helps that well being. We currently strive to have our team on 4 ten hour days. Our techs currently work only one Saturday every 4 weeks.

We are looking for smiling, compassionate, and learning-committed Licensed Veterinary Technicians or Veterinary Assistants to join our team! Our hospital is proud to be accredited with the American Animal Hospital Association, which reflects our dedication to the highest quality of patient care.

Experience and basic skills are required for this full-time position, including surgical monitoring, radiology, dentals, venipuncture, laboratory tests, and more. We do not offer grooming or boarding. Candidate must be outgoing and comfortable interacting with clients. We are a fast paced clinic, and have a full in house diagnostic lab, ultrasound, and digital radiology. In addition, we will soon have CT. Must have flexible schedule and be available for rotating Saturday shifts (8am to 4pm). We endeavor to have only one Saturday worked per month. Pay is negotiable based on experience.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Licensed Veterinary Technicians must possess a current license in the state of Texas.
  • At least one year of recent experience in veterinary practice with increasing responsibilities.
  • Ability to properly restrain patients.
  • Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.
  • A commitment to outstanding client service.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 40 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Check patients into rooms, TPR, taking patients history
  • Possess thorough knowledge of heartworm/flea/tick preventatives as well as vaccinations
  • Exhibit proper restrain techniques (canine and feline)
  • Position and restraint for digital radiology
  • Give injections, including vaccinations and medications
  • Monitor hospitalized patients
  • Venipuncture
  • Anesthesia induction and intubation, as well as monitoring anesthesia during surgery
  • Perform dentals, including dental radiology, cleaning, scaling and polishing
  • Handling surgical equipment and instruments--both assisting the surgeon and sterilizing packs
  • Preparing and/or reading lab samples such as heartworm tests, fecal tests, urinalysis, cytologies, etc.
  • Preparing patient history and submitting lab samples to outside lab.
  • Updating patient medical records in our software

Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
