GAP Solutions, Inc. is Hiring a Laboratory Technician Near Baltimore, MD

Position Objective: Provide services as a Laboratory Technician in support of the overall functions of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Under this delivery order, the contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and administer biological research programs.
  • Study basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and function Develop and maintain liaisons and effective working relations with groups and individuals, agencies, and the public to encourage cooperative management strategies or to develop information and interpret findings.
  • Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings.
  • Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Operate laboratory equipment to analyze samples Analyze laboratory findings.
  • Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data.
  • Monitor operational procedures in technical environments to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Interpret research or operational data Record research or operational data. 1
  • Focus on the daily operation management such as: equipment maintenance, equipment operation trainings, reagent and item ordering paperwork, report preparations.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Conduct anatomical analysis including cryostat sectioning, brain tissue immunohistochemical preparation, image collection, data analysis. 3
  • Perform light sheet microscopy including sample preparation such as brain clearing, immunostaining, image collection, and data analysis.
  • Operate VS scanner, perform brain sectioning and imaging techniques. 2
  • Help train Core staff in cryostat sectioning, immunostaining, section mounting, image collection, data analysis Help with experimental design, data collection, data interpretation and preparation of manuscripts.
  • Train users in emerging technologies.
  • Help with workshops, seminars, talks for new emerging technology Train users how to use microscopes in Histology and Imaging Core.
  • Use Microsoft Office for records management, along with other IRP- and NIH-Hosted imaging and analysis software.
  • Clean Equipment - Ad-Hoc
  • Run Validation - Ad-Hoc
  • Inspect Equipment - Ad-Hoc
  • Meet with lab members to present updates- Ad-Hoc

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Biology or a related discipline preferred.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with, neuroanatomy, light sheet microscopy, cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry, VS scanner, brain clearing techniques and other histological techniques.
  • Skilled in MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Bitplane Imaris, R, Python, and MATLAB.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
