GAP Solutions, Inc. is Hiring a Clinical Advisor (Part-Time) Near Bethesda, MD

Position Objective: Provide services as a Clinical Advisor in support of the overall functions of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of Psychosis and Cognitive Studies Sections in the National Institute of Mental Health.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to preliminary evaluation of potential probands through consultation with medical and recruitment staff, leading to acceptance for protocol participation or rejection with referral, if indicated.
  • Participates in community outreach to encourage volunteer recruitment efforts for protocols (including inpatient programs).
  • Plans data management and quality control strategies.
  • Provides expert guidance in the administration and interpretation of psychological assessments for probands and family members, and clinical and research staff.
  • Helps to oversee psychological testing of patients and healthy control subjects.
  • Provides expert guidance for cognitive and neuropsychological, behavioral, and other assessments for clinical care and research studies including diagnostic and symptom assessments, personality and trait questionnaires, rating scales, and direct testing with individuals. 1
  • Provides appropriate feedback regarding history and assessments to participants and family members, as needed.
  • Conducts various studies of basic cognitive and behavioral mechanisms in psychotic illness -- and their relationship to biology -- taking advantage not only of clinical and behavioral data from the Branch and collaborators, but also of genetics and neuroimaging data streams.
  • Conducts research aimed at improving our understanding and use of cognitive and behavioral measurement data.
  • This includes various analyses aimed at identifying the main dimensions of different categories of data (e.g., cognitive, symptom, or developmental data), data reduction strategies that highlight and focus in on critical cognitive and behavioral dimensions, and refinement of these measures for wide use in Branch research. 3
  • Seeks to advance the understanding of cognitive and related impairments in neuropsychiatric disorders, like schizophrenia, and support of the search for new assessment, clinical prediction, and intervention strategies.
  • Helps to integrate information about clinical and developmental history with data from clinical ratings and cognitive and behavioral findings, across inpatient, outpatient, and longitudinal clinical studies.
  • Helps to generate general recommendations and referrals to school systems, medical and health facilities and other agencies.
  • Educates research staff regarding the use, strengths and limitation of psychological testing.
  • Provides expert consultation to multidisciplinary research teams regarding study findings for incorporation into research manuscripts and presentation.
  • Provides psychological subject matter expertise to researchers planning, implementing, monitoring, tracking and closing out clinical research, including matters of study design and use and analysis of data from psychological instruments.
  • Participate in collection, storage and analysis of data regarding neuropsychological function and the life course of illness in patients as ascertained by testing and interviews with proband and family members.
  • Participate in research group meetings and in the decision-making process regarding patient inclusion in the studies, patient and parent diagnosis, and patient and family management throughout participation in the research protocol.
  • Provides expert guidance on data visualization, quantitative analyses, psychometrics and related measurement issues, and data management.
  • Conducts quantitative analyses, organizes findings, creates conference presentations, and drafts manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals to publicize Branch findings. 2
  • Work products and documents related to screening potential participants with regard to critical inclusion/exclusion criteria (e.g., diagnosis) in ongoing Branch protocols. - Weekly
  • Work products and documents related to the administration and interpretation of psychological and behavioral assessments, and their integration with information about clinical and developmental history. - Daily
  • Work products and documents related to data visualization, quantitative analyses, conference and other presentations, and journal manuscripts.Daily
  • Work products and documents related to assisting's with psychological testing of patients and healthy control subjects; Provides psychological subject matter expertise to researchers planning, implementing, monitoring, tracking and closing out clinical research, including matters of study design and use and analysis of data from psychological instruments; Participates in collection, storage and analysis of data regarding neuropsychological function and the life course of illness in patients as ascertained by testing and interviews with proband and family members. - Daily

Basic Qualifications:

  • Licensed Psychologist.
  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Neuroscience.
  • Possess computer skills to include MS Office Suite and assorted statistical and data visualization software (SPSS, R, etc.),
  • Experienced in data visualization, quantitative analysis, neuropsychological, diagnostic, and behavioral assessments, study conceptualization, psychometrics, recruitment, and screening.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
