Reports to: Program Manager
Employment Type: Full- time, Mode of Work: In- person (no remote work)
Work Location: Miami- Dade
Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 (non negotiable)

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration or related degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience and demonstrated success in employer engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in workforce development, business development, marketing or any combination of training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties as describe
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations including at-risk and justice-involved youth and adults
  • Strong leadership, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver, and results-oriented.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic and social groups.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships; maintain confidentiality, professionalism and maturity in handling sensitive information, participant interaction and community relations.
  • Knowledge of local labor market trends and employment opportunities.
  • Knowledge of the Miami-Dade County employment sector landscape.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

  • Must possess a proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to successfully navigate through the Internet, excel, power point, and other applicable software.

  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.

Note:

  • This position may require independent travel between workstation and other sites. Consequently, the incumbent must maintain valid Driver’s License and insurance coverage on personal vehicle at all times during employment.
  • Performing the duties of this position requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, reach, talk, hear and lift presentation materials, including equipment.

Position Summary

The Employment Specialist will maintain responsibility for supporting participants in attaining personal employment goals by providing job coaching, mentoring, job shadowing, on-the-job training, and work experience opportunities. They are responsible for identifying suitable employment opportunities for program participants along a defined career pathway. The goal help participants attain self-sufficiency by reducing barriers to securing and retaining jobs that pay a livable wage. The expected outcomes are consistent with increasing employment placement in in-demand occupations in Miami-Dade County.

The Employment Specialist will demonstrate to employers the effectiveness and profitability of employing unemployed, underemployed as well as individuals that have less than desirable backgrounds by identifying jobs that workers can perform in, aligned with identified career pathways and labor market data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting outreach and in executing recruitment processes consistent with the department’s goals and objectives.
  • Assist in conducting participant intakes, eligibility verification and documentation according to funders and Gang Alternative, Inc.’s guidelines.
  • Administer evidence-based assessments.
  • Provide guidance and monitor individual participant employment and career development activities as outlined in the Individual development Plans in order to track progress of their progress toward attainment of identified employment goals.
  • Provide career guidance and mentorship to participants as needed, including through industry experts and employers.
  • Perform strategic planning for marketing to targeted industries and assigned high-demand occupation business zone.
  • Initiates and maintains ongoing personal contact with a variety of businesses and industry representatives to promote programs for participant placement.
  • Regularly engage in employer site visits, contacting businesses throughout Miami-Dade County to market Gang Alternative, Inc.
  • Identify and engage potential employers; explaining the benefits and employment support services provided by Gang Alternative, Inc.’s Workforce Development Department.
  • Locate jobs for participants who have successfully completed training program.
  • Collect data from employers related to job orders including job requirements and skill
  • Conducts necessary follow-up when participants are placed in position
  • Attend and organize job fair.
  • Arrange interview
  • Provides labor market and community resources information.
  • Monitor participant performance on the job and counsel participants if job performance is not satisfactory.
  • Maintain contact with employers during the participants’ employment and reports results to appropriate staff.
  • Conduct frequent one-on-one participant and group employability sessions.
  • Support the coordination and facilitation of the Employer Advisory Committee.
  • Prepares forms and reports related to placement activities and prepare other reports, as required, for submission to funders and other partners via Program Manager.
  • Attend industry and occupational career pathway association and union meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as an Ambassador of Gang Alternative, Inc.
