Galvin Middle School is Hiring a Long Term Substitute - 6th Grade Reading, Galvin Middle School Near Canton, MA

The Galvin Middle School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as a

long-term substitute reading teacher through May 31, 2024. This is a full-time teaching position. The candidate will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families and staff.

The Galvin Middle School is an inclusive community for all students and staff and serves students in grades 6-8. The Galvin Middle School is elevating the educational experience for our students by cultivating a school culture and climate that promotes academic growth and social emotional learning for every student, and ensures high quality teaching and learning through the purposeful design of rigorous and equitable student experiences.

JOB SUMMARY

Teachers provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can access and make progress towards Massachusetts standards based curriculum and develop social and emotional skills in order to participate in society, while providing a safe and supportive educational environment for all students. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  1. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  2. Develop lesson plans that align with the state standards
  3. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  4. Prepare the classroom for class activities
  5. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  6. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
  7. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  8. Use relevant technology to support instruction
  9. Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development
  10. Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
  11. Provide appropriate feedback on work
  12. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  13. Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  14. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations
  15. Prepare required reports on students and activities
  16. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  17. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  18. Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
  19. Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings
  20. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  21. Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification that is appropriate for the grade level and subject area assigned. (Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.)
  2. Highly Qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  3. Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, other school staff and visitors
  4. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  5. Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
  6. Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  7. Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable
