Galveston County Health District is seeking a Bilingual Business Center Specialist!

This position is responsible for clerical duties related to the issuance of birth and death records in the offices of the Galveston County Health District in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and policies.

Required:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
• 1 year experience in administrative or data entry functions
• Bilingual Spanish required
• AOP Certification (must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment)
• Notary Public (must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment)
• Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles
• Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
• Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable
• Customer Service Oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent Computer Skills MS Office
• Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours if necessary
• Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy
• Must be in compliance with ICS training requirements
• Must pass criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting required by Texas Department of State Health Services and drug/alcohol screening

An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.

Traditional Duties

• Registers, stores and issues certified copies of birth and death certificates and collects appropriate fee
• Prepares and submits deposits daily to the bank
• Determines eligibility status in filing birth and death amendments and Acknowledgements of Paternity
• Provides general information on policies and procedures of the Department of State Health Services Vital Statistics laws and regulations
• Responds in a timely manner to all internal and external correspondence requests
• Prepares or assures preparation and submission of required and requested reports, including but not limited to monthly listing of deaths submitted to county voter registrars and Secretary of State
• Files, posts, mails materials, copies data from one record to another and performs interviews to obtain basic information to ensure the success of the filing of home birth and other vital registration requests
• Directs the Contact Center switchboard calls to the appropriate GCHD departments
• Collect funds and ensure that funds are deposited daily (PHBC – Vitals)
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
