 Teen Youth Worker

JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides academic support and enrichment through out-of-school time activities for teens, ages 13-18. The Teen Youth Worker will plan, develop, and implement enriching, age-appropriate activities that support the cognitive and social-emotional development of participants. The Teen Youth Worker will help students acquire effective work and study skills, as well as assist students through a college-readiness curriculum and college visits. In addition, this positon leads the agency’s participation in the FIRST Tech Robotics Challenge and ensures competitive participation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identifies appropriate STEAM-based education resources, under the guidance of the Curriculum Coordinator and the Youth Program Manager; implements program curricula as well as other enrichment and academic supports such as literacy, robotics, arts, mentoring, service learning, life skills, and sports and recreation. Ensures that students at various grade and skill levels are appropriately challenged.
  2. Engages students in Robotics, leveraging local volunteer support and fueling a competitive team. Oversees all aspects of the Robotics project.
  3. Plans and leads appropriate field trips; supports planning and implementation of college visits, family events, and parent meetings.
  4. Provides regular written and oral reports on program, as assigned.
  5. Ensures enrollment data is accurately entered into GHC’s database for Building Leaders, under guidance of Youth Programs Manager.
  6. Ensures families and/or participants from GHC’s database/Ecornerstone for Building Leaders are entered or terminated under guidance of the Youth Programs Manager.
  7. Completes assessments, as needed, for youth, including SAYO and SDQ’s.
  8. Conducts and records accurate daily attendance of program participants.
  9. Completes meal sheets on a daily-basis and ensures they are correct.
  10. Supports post-secondary exploration during after-school programming and helps students explore college, career, and vocational school options.
  11. Contributes to the development and maintenance of a safe, organized, and positive learning environment in all program spaces.
  12. Serves as a resource and role model to students and provides safe spaces for them to discuss issues facing their lives; supports students in their social-emotional development.
  13. Collects required programmatic data on an ongoing basis and maintains accurate records of student performance.
  14. Assists students with completion of daily homework and supports development of positive study skills.
  15. Adheres to DCFS Licensing Standards at all-times and notifies supervisor of any potential licensing violations.

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all Gads Hill Center employees are responsible for the following:

  1. Participating in agency outreach and recruitment events, including evenings and weekends.
  2. Participating in supervision meetings and workshops within the agency and outside (if applicable).
  3. Participating in civic engagement activities that advance the mission of Gads Hill Center.
  4. Advancing parent leadership development.
  5. Performing other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associates Degree in Education, Social work, or related field, preferred.
  2. Previous out-of-school time program experience preferred.
  3. Experience with multi-cultural programming preferred.
  4. Previous direct classroom or family support experience with low-income families.
  5. Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural Spanish/English preferred.
  6. Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills.
  7. Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
  8. A passion for the mission of Gads Hill Center.
  9. Must have a valid Driver’s License, access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally.

POSITION DETAILS:

Entry Salary Range: $17.00 - $20.00

Schedule: 30 – 40 hours/week
