Welcome to GT's Home on the Web On April 1, 1972, GT Distributors opened its doors. Bill Orr, our founder, is still active in the company. Our initial product lines were Smith & Wesson and Colt. That may not now seem to have been an extensive line, but at that time S&W sold more than guns and cuffs. They offered rifles, shotguns, armor, tear gas, breathalyzers, night vision, identa kits, radar, nightsticks, knives, rescue gear, resuscitators, ammo, holsters, sirens and lightbars. The GT name came from the fact that our original location was one block from the Georgia and Tennessee state line. ...In our current location at 100 McFarland Road in Rossville, our north property line is the state line. Now that we have a store in Texas, we like to think that GT means Georgia and Texas. Our Georgia location now has 14 employees, two of which are road representatives. The Rossville store has the largest full line public safety showroom in the Southeast. In February 1985 we opened our Texas store, in Austin, with two employees----Jim Orr and Peter Hernandez. Both are still serving customers. That first address was at 7801 N. Lamar. In 25 years our Texas location has grown from 2 employees to just over 50. Of these, five are full time road representatives. In 1989 we occupied a larger building at 5426 Guadalupe to handle the increased business. Then, in January 2004 we moved once again to a 31,000 sq foot building located at 2545 Brockton drive. It now is the largest showroom in Texas and the five neighboring states.
