Job Summary:
The Housing Area Supervisor has general responsibility for supervising the Maintenance/Custodial Staff members assigned to their area of responsibility as well as cleaning and maintaining all campus housing and surrounding grounds to provide efficient service, safe and comfortable accommodations and attractive surroundings for the occupants.
Job Description:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Creates an environment in campus housing which contributes to the total development of each individual by completing and/or supervising the following, but not limited to:
  • Scrubbing, stripping, waxing, mopping, cleaning, dusting, sweeping and/or vacuuming floors and stairs.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting showers, sinks, drains, grout and mirrors in restrooms.
  • Ensuring supplies are provided in public restroom areas.
  • Cleaning and emptying trash containers and recycle containers.
  • Cleaning exterior walls and doors.
  • Cleaning doors, windows, light fixtures, blinds, partitions, furniture, water fountains, vents, blinds and baseboards in hallways and kitchens.
  • Removing spider webs, maintaining landings and breezeways, blowing leaves, snow removal or other outside duties as required in assigned area; may include use of a pressure washer.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of designated office areas, meeting spaces, kitchens or other public areas and assist in setting up for special events.
2. Provides timely service by completing and/or supervising the completion of maintenance and custodial requests from residents or supervisors.
3. Be available on a rotating schedule to field after hours maintenance calls to determine if housing custodial staff should respond using established professional staff emergency response procedures.
4. Maintains all custodial equipment, tools, supplies, radios, work vehicles and maintenance/custodial inventory.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School graduate with 2 - 4 years experience in related field.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions and product labels.
  • Ability to operate basic cleaning equipment.
  • Experience in campus housing maintenance and custodial support.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
  • Continuous exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, and requires following safety precautions.
  • Frequently requires lifting of up to 30 lbs. unassisted and up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Frequently requires reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, and
  • pulling.
Work Environment:
Work is performed 50 to 90% inside under usual office/gym conditions and 10 to 50% outside under varied weather conditions.
Assigned area dictates percentage of indoor versus outside work tasks.
