Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Fitness & Wellness will focus on building a comprehensive, modernized, collegiate version of fitness and wellness programs and the revenue generation to support those initiatives. The associate director will oversee the operation of the PAC fitness center and natatorium, group exercise classes, personal training, and specialized wellness initiatives. The associate director reports to the Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness (CRW) and is a member of the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for upholding the department values and fostering an inclusive, equitable environment where all staff and participants feel welcome.
Assists the director with developing the department's strategic and operational framework, designing and implementing assessments, and synthesizing data for stratified target audiences.
Uses the divisional and institutional strategic plans as guiderails for designing purposeful work in the fitness and wellness space.
Directly responsible for the overall operations of the PAC Fitness Center, including but not limited to:
  • recruiting, training, and leading 30-50 student staff members.
  • equipment rental, refurbishment, and replacement.
  • facility reservations and invoicing.
  • membership sales and retention.
Indirectly responsible for expanding the group exercise (GroupX) program to meet modern, collegiate recreation standards, increase participation base, and recruiting, training, and leading the 5-12 instructors.
Develops intentional, wellness-based programming throughout the year.
  • These will be purposeful initiatives that are built in a collaborative environment centered on/around the work of the student health and wellbeing and employee wellness committees.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of Student Involvement and Engagement to create recreation programming that is vibrant, promotes wellness and wellbeing, creates opportunities for all students to feel a sense of belongingness, and contributes to the personal and interpersonal (thrive and connect) development of students as promised by The Furman Advantage (TFA).
Responsible for assessing, marketing, and assisting with managing risk within fitness & wellness.
Assists with developing departmental and divisional strategy to accomplish organizational mission.
Responsible for managing software and hardware related to the fitness center, e.g. Fusion, Teams, etc.
Assists with developing and managing departmental policies and procedures.
Serves on campus committees as assigned.
Assists with summer and fall new student orientation and other programs within the Office of Student Involvement and Engagement.
Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and University goals.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the goals and objectives of the department, the Division of Student Life, and the University.

Responsibilities for Final Decisions:
Reviews work to ensure compliance with procedures and deadlines.
Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.
Errors may be detected within the department or section in which they occur but may affect the work of others within the unit to trace errors and make corrections.
Supervises: 1 FT: Fitness Center Assistant
Reports To: Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness
Work is performed independently on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.
