Fulton County is Hiring a NURSE TECHNICIAN Near VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN FULTON COUNTY, GA

UNCLASSIFIED POSITION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SENIOR SERVICES 
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Technician or a related field plus certification as a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse, supplemented by one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Some knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; experience working with Seniors/Elderly; and some experience working in a senior facility is preferred but not requiredSpecific License or Certification Required:

Must be certified as a Certified Nurse Technician with an accredited program.
 1. Attend and complete an approved CNA program. Must hold a Georgia CNA license or complete an application to become certified from out of state by the process of reciprocity.
 2. State of Georgia License as a Certified Nurse Aide/Assistance or licensed in another state and work in Georgia by reciprocity.

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
 
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities : Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Examination:
The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to providing collaborative healthcare, education and outreach services for County residents infected and affected by tuberculosis, sexually-transmitted infections and HIV, in various Fulton County health facilities. Responsibilities include obtaining patient medical history, assisting with physical examinations, obtaining and analyzing patient specimens, and billing for services under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Incumbent is this class provides basic patient care under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse.
 
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned
 
Obtains medical histories from patients: When the patient comes into the RW Clinic for their appointment a medical evaluation is performed at each visit ensuring that any new developments regarding the patient medical history is captured fo r the physician to review upon patient examination.
 
Assists physicians with routine and annual patient examinations: Stocks exam rooms with proper supplies needed to perform the necessary functions; ensures physicians have gloves, papsmear kits, hemoccult and developer, Otoscope, scales, BP monitors, syringes, Q-tips, cotton balls, tongue blades, alcohol swipes, gowns and drape sheet, pelvic light and pelvic speculums; and performs daily checks for all exam rooms to ensure adequacy of all supplies.
 
Obtains patient vital signs and other health checks: Performs height, weight, vision and hearing checks; collects sputum, blood and/or urine samples; performs pregnancy, hemoglobin, blood sugar, lead, metabolic and blood pressure tests; takes chest x-rays; performs other designated checks and tests as needed for clinical evaluation by the physician.
 
Performs phlebotomy tasks: Collects blood samples for the necessary lab test that are required for continual care in the clinic as well as for new patients; collects sputum sample as required.
 
Triages patients for prioritization: Upon presenting for their appointment, assesses patients to address all medical needs possible before seeing the medical provider; ensures that vitals and lab results are stable; reports abnormalities immediately to medical provider for immediate attention.
 
Provides HIV counseling to patients: Provides health education information about the risk factor of HIV as well as information regarding risky lifestyles and contracting communicable diseases; informs patients about social service agencies in the community; provides condoms and HIV counseling to clinic patients.
 
Performs a variety of administrative functions: Answers incoming calls, greets and assist clients; provides information to outside agency programs and services; explains departmental policies and procedures; performs searches for data and records; schedules lab and medical appointments; verifies proof of income and residency and checks current identification for the clinic programs; provides information to pharmacies; performs data entry on specialized computer programs requiring database management; faxes referrals to outside agencies; receives and processes medical information from outside agencies; pulls and reviews medical charts for pertinent lab information; handles all abnormal lab reports and contacts patients to make appointment as soon as possible via certified mail or confidential phone call; processes charts for medication refills and to review for immunizations needs; assists in orienting and training clinical staff ; respond s to telephone inquiries; date stamps all incoming medical lab reports; logs all lab reports into the daily lab log book; and copies and distributes labs to the appropriate providers.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
 
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
 
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
