Provide advanced or more specialized support in the areas of but not limited to FOIA/Acquisitions/FOIA Appeals/ Indian Trust Litigation. Basic duties include:
* Review of scanned images of documents, utilizing document review software applications, for privileged, confidential, or otherwise protected information, including information protected under attorney-client privilege, attorney work-product privilege, deliberative process privilege, the Trade Secrets Act (TSA), PA, and any other federal statute, law, or court order that requires or authorizes federal agencies to protect such information from disclosure.
* Review of hard copies of documents for privileged, confidential, or otherwise protected information, including information protected under attorney-client privilege, attorney work-product privilege, deliberative process privilege.A Paralegal / Legal Assistant II performs varied duties including or comparable to the following:
* Reviews case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration.
* Searches for and summarizes relevant articles in trade magazines, law reviews, published studies, financial reports, and similar materials for use of attorneys in the preparation of opinions, briefs, and other legal documents.
* Prepares digests of selected decisions or opinions which incorporate legal references and analyses of precedents involved in areas of well-defined and settled points of law.
* Interviews potential witnesses and prepares summary interview reports for the attorney's review.
* Participates in pre-trial witness conferences, notes possible deficiencies in case materials (e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements) and additional issues or other questionable matters, and requests further investigation by other agency personnel to correct possible deficiencies or personally conducts limited investigations at the pre-trial stage.
* Prepares and organizes trial exhibits, as required, such as statistical charts and photographic exhibits.
* Verifies citations and legal references on prepared legal documents.
* Prepares summaries of testimony and depositions.
* Drafts and edits non-legal memoranda, research reports and correspondence relating to cases.
* Other duties as assigned. Requirements In addition to having solid experience in the listed service and support areas, a Paralegal / Legal Assistant II must meet the following qualifications: Minimum Educational Requirements: * Bachelor's degree or higher and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.Skills/Qualifications Required: * Has extensive knowledge of commonly used legal concepts, practices, and procedures.
* Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to convey, obtain, exchange information and documents with the relevant bureaus and offices and SOL attorney.
* Ability to use basic office equipment.
* Analytical ability, along with a knowledge of the methods used to gather, analyze, and evaluate information.
* In-depth knowledge of the title standards, title opinions, title evidence, defective title, and creation of a chain of title.
* Ability to review title evidence and make determinations as to land and mineral ownership, and spot title defects.
* Ability to create a title opinion recommendation to assist the SOL attorney in writing a title opinion.
* Knowledge of legal research techniques and the ability to apply this knowledge to the analysis of legal problems, preparation of legal documents, and the initiation of recommendations concerning specific legal issues dealing with title opinions.
* Use logic in developing strategies for curing title defects.
* Ability to communicate orally to convey, obtain, exchange information, and conduct fact-finding interviews with governmental personnel or individuals in businesses or other organizations.Pride in work product and a passion for quality and professionalism.
* Professional in demeanor, responsiveness, appearance, and deportment.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills sufficient to provide clear and concise communication and documentation.
* Pproactive in accomplishing assigned tasks and responsive to all entities with business dealings related to the assigned tasks.This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
