FS Investments is Hiring an Investment Director Near Philadelphia, PA

The Family Office ("FO") is seeking an Investment Director, who will report to the Head of Investments. The Investment Director is expected to contribute to a multi-faceted investment portfolio with holdings in cash, public equities, fixed income, private equity, venture capital, private credit, real estate, and direct investments across various entities including estate vehicles and foundations.

The FO provides bespoke services to the Family demanding the highest levels of discretion and attention to detail. We nurture relationships and coordinate the work of professional service organizations serving the needs of the FO including specialists in law, accounting, tax, estate planning, investments, art, aircraft, philanthropic matters, insurance, and education.

As part of a small, collaborative, and entrepreneurial team, you will assist in all aspects of new investments and asset management from sourcing and investment to portfolio construction and risk and duration management. You will be encouraged to diversify the FO exposures and identify quality investment opportunities across all asset classes, and you will participate in quantitative and qualitative analysis of the FO's existing portfolio investments and potential new investment opportunities. This is a multi-faceted role, capitalizing on both breadth and depth of interest and experience, where you will hone skills in data analysis, financial projections, portfolio construction, and operations as you shepherd investments through the due diligence and asset management process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Generate investment theses and evaluate investment opportunities through research and rigorous due diligence.
  • Participate in and drive a non-concessionary impact driven portfolio to ensure alignment with Family values, brand, and reputation.
  • Proactively and strategically build networks and source investment opportunities that are complementary and supplementary to current portfolio.
  • Prepare detailed investment memos that incorporate qualitative and quantitative analyses (returns modeling, public and private comparable company benchmarking, reference checks, etc.) to present to the Family.
  • Manage relationships with GPs and senior executive teams at portfolio companies and funds, and serve as a liaison between this group and affiliated syndicates.
  • Assist in reporting efforts by staying engaged with new investment activity and continuously seek improvements in in-house and third-party managed investment reporting while maintaining quality and accuracy of existing reporting.
  • Lead creation and maintenance of a CRM to actively track pipeline opportunities and progress.
  • Work effectively across the FO with accounting, finance, operating, and administrative teams to assist in cash management, budgeting, and multi-year projections.
  • Lead adherence to business terms when drafting legal documents with external counsel.
  • Provide support for fundraising efforts through creation of marketing materials, conversations with potential investors, and ongoing investor relations on an as-needed basis.
  • Offer operational and financial guidance and effort to existing portfolio companies on an as-needed basis.
  • Join company Boards, LPACs and other advisory committees on behalf of the FO on an as-needed basis.
  • Engage in civic and philanthropic efforts locally to enhance the brand of the Family and build a robust local investing ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required: quantitative field, undergraduate business degree, or economics preferred.
  • 5-7 years of job experience preferred.
  • Must have experience in investment banking, private funds, or investment management.
  • Must have experience with financial modeling, data analysis, and investor presentations.
  • Must have an entrepreneurial drive, multi-tasking skills, a collaborative attitude, and strong organizational skills.
  • Must have proficiency in Microsoft suite of products.
  • Some exposure to coding (VBA, R, Matlab, Python), generative AI, and QuickBooks preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited oversight; high attention to detail is a must.
