The general nursing duties are to administer prescription and non-prescription medications according to school policy and in compliance with 022 PA Code.

The school nurse provides first aid, charts all immunizations, physicals, vision and hearing results, postural screenings, and heights and weights. This position will maintain logs and document the activities of the school health clinic and perform other related nursing duties in the school setting.

Essential Functions:

• Assists in the maintenance of a comprehensive school health program.
• Collects information about the health development status of students for compliance with state immunization regulations and Board of Education policies.
• Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing.
• Performs nursing assessmentsassessments for students who are ill or injured; applies appropriate theory as basis for providing first aid, nursing care, intervention and referrals for those students.
• Maintains accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law, and Board of Education policies
• Provides health education to students as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

● Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses and injuries, nutrition, and related areas.

● Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint, the Internet, Outlook, electronic mail).

Requirements:

● Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited School (BSN Strongly Preferred)

● Registered professional nurse as defined and determined by state law, and currently licensed in the state.

● Current Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid

● 2 Years of Experience in Pediatrics, Community Health or Other Relevant settings preferred. Equipment:

● Uses medical equipment to provide health care to students/staff, including, but not limited to, blood glucose monitorsmonitors, stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools
