Position Summary

AAI/Spalding is a major sports equipment manufacturing company located in Jefferson, Iowa owned by Spalding; a division of Fruit of the Loom, an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., & leading international basic apparel company.

We currently have an opening for a Lead Person. Plans, coordinates, and monitors the production work in the Ideal building. Assists with production process as needed.

AAI is the official supplier and partner to USA Gymnastics and the NCAA, as well as a proud partner with the Federation Internationale De Gymnastique (FIG).

Spalding is the largest basketball equipment supplier in the world. As the official backboard of the NBA and NCAA since 2009, this makes them one of the most well-known brands in the industry.

Our Jefferson, Iowa facility has been in operation and supporting our local community since 1954.

Specific Responsibilities

Plans and assures that all materials are available for each job based on set production schedule. Explains each job to the assigned production worker including safety procedures, production rate, and any special requirements. Explains/interprets blueprints, work orders and other documents to each worker. Inspects initial parts/assemblies to assure correctness before employee continues. Assures the quality and workmanship of work performed in the department.

Confers with other lead people to coordinate activities of individual departments. Sets up machines and equipment as needed. Reports machine and equipment malfunctions to Supervisor and maintenance personnel. May perform minor maintenance. Performs production work as needed.

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product to the supervisor. Assists workers in solving production problems. Immediately reports problems to the Production Supervisor. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals to the supervisor. Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.

Minimum Qualifications

One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Good verbal skills – ability to effectively communicate to small groups

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide various units of measure to include fractions, decimals, and whole numbers

Good computer skills – simple spreadsheets, word processing and mainframe computer understanding

Minimum Job Experience Required

Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
