Research Associate - Protein Science

W2 Contract

Salary Range: $35 - $40 per hour (Part-Time)

Location: Berkeley, CA - Onsite Role

Job Summary:

We seek an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will excel in the dynamic environment of an early-stage startup company and is eager to work on big projects and take on new scientific challenges. You will support the nonclinical development of one or more novel drug products. Your daily responsibilities will include protein expression and purification, microbial cell culturing, molecular cloning, biochemical synthesis, and characterization of our novel protein/polymer conjugates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent laboratory experiments following defined laboratory technical procedures.
• Prepare bacterial cultures for protein expression.
• Perform protein purification using an FPLC.
• DNA construct synthesis using molecular cloning techniques.
• Use other basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, ELISA, colorimetric assays).
• Maintain accurate and well-organized laboratory records, worksheets, and notebooks.
• Comply with company Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures, and practices.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• BS/MS in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology or a related discipline
• 1-3 years of research lab experience in a manufacturing or industry-specific biological laboratory
• Experience with Protein expression and FPLC
• Experience with E.coli expression and vector systems is a plus
• Able to conduct research with careful attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills
• Able to communicate effectively with scientists across multiple disciplines
• A dependable, self-starter capable of working independently within a small team
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
