Fritz & Hawley Guild Opticians is Hiring an Optometric Technician Near Hamden, CT

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. As an Optometric Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting the optometrist in providing high-quality eye care to our patients.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

conducting preliminary tests

gathering patient information

ensuring a smooth flow of patients

Duties:

- Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and visual field testing

- Obtain and record patient medical history, including current medications and allergies

- Assist with contact lens fittings and instructions for proper use and care

- Prepare patients for examination by the optometrist

- Perform diagnostic tests such as tonometry (measuring intraocular pressure) and retinal imaging

- Educate patients on proper eye care and answer any questions or concerns they may have

- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using electronic medical record systems (such as Epic)

- Clean and maintain equipment, ensuring it is in proper working order

- Adhere to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality

Skills:

- knowledge of medical terminology related to optometry

- Understanding of basic physiology as it relates to the eye

- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient privacy

- Proficiency in retail math for assisting with eyewear selection and pricing

- Experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred

- Knowledge of medical coding for insurance billing purposes is a plus

- Familiarity with optical instruments and equipment used in eye examinations

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
