District of Columbia International School is Hiring a Teaching Fellow Near Washington, DC

DCI is hiring a full-time Teaching Fellow.

Teaching Fellows are aspiring secondary teachers who begin their career as educators at the DC International School (DCI), an International Baccalaureate school where all students learn Chinese, Spanish, or French. DCI aims to provide students with a world-class education that empowers them to follow their passions and change the world.

Teaching Fellows join a vibrant and diverse community at DCI that supports their growth through professional development, mentorship, and on-the job training. Fellows are placed in classrooms with co-teachers who are also their mentors. Fellows eventually take on lead teacher responsibilities in 1-2 periods a day, after the initial development stage has concluded.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Bilingual and biliterate Chinese, Spanish, or French and in English (preferred)
  • Commitment to becoming a world-class teacher
  • Alignment to DCI’s vision and mission
  • Experience working with young people and/or diverse communities

Salary: $40,000 - $45,000 annually.

Responsibilities:

  • Support co-teacher as an additional instructor in the classroom
  • Interact with students, families, and colleagues in a professional and inviting manner, including communication in Chinese, Spanish, or French
  • Teach courses and/or substitute teach as the sole instructor as necessary
  • Attend Professional Development sessions and receive coaching from a mentor teacher every week
  • Provide instructional support outside the classroom during the school day, such as tutoring or holding office hours
  • Provide classroom management support, such as informal mentorship or supporting discipline systems
  • Support extracurricular and athletic activities
  • Support cultural activities that center around Chinese, Spanish, or French culture
  • Draft documents and spreadsheets using Google docs on a Mac computer
  • Provide administrative support or other duties as necessary
