Overview:

The mission of Friendship Public Charter School (FPCS) is to prepare students to become ethical, literate, well-rounded, and self-sufficient citizens by providing a world-class education that motivates students to reach high academic standards, to enjoy learning, to achieve success, and to contribute actively to their communities. The Senior Director of Secondary Improvement is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and enhancing the overall academic performance, instructional strategies, and student outcomes within Friendships high school system. This position requires a deep understanding of educational best practices, curriculum development, data analysis, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for both students and educators.

Please note, the salary range for this role is $100k - $130k

Responsibilities:
  • Academic Achievement at Friendship High Schools
    • Work with current school leadership teams to elevate Friendship high schools to Level 1 status based upon the Washington, D.C. Public Charter School Boards ASPIRE accountability framework. Specific accountability metrics include:
      • Students on-track for graduation at each grade level
      • Student attendance rates
      • Student proficiency rates on the high-stakes DC assessment (DC CAPE)
      • College-readiness as measured by PSAT and SAT
      • Student access to and success in dual enrollment courses, AP courses, and CTE pathways
      • Graduation rates (ACGR)
      • College acceptance, matriculation, and persistence
  • Curriculum Development and Alignment:
  • Collaborate with curriculum specialists and teachers to develop, implement, and align high school curriculum with academic standards and district goals.
  • Ensure that the curriculum is engaging, relevant, and meets the diverse needs of students.
  • Professional Development:
    • Develop and implement professional development programs for high school teachers and staff, focusing on instructional strategies, technology integration, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide ongoing support and coaching to leaders & educators to enhance their teaching practices.
    • Measure the impact of professional development programs on school leader impact, teacher effectiveness and instructional practices.
  • Data Analysis and Assessment:
    • Analyze student performance data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
    • Work with school leadership teams to develop and implement data-driven strategies for improving student achievement.
    • Monitor and analyze student performance data, including test scores, academic growth, and other accountability measures to ensure continuous improvement in student outcomes.
  • School Improvement Planning:
    • Collaborate with school principals and leadership teams to create and implement school improvement plans that address specific academic needs and goals.
    • Monitor the progress of improvement initiatives and adjust strategies as needed.
    • Monitor the allocation and utilization of resources to support academic programs and initiatives effectively.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Foster positive relationships with parents, community stakeholders, and local businesses to enhance support for high schools.
    • Communicate effectively with the community about educational goals, achievements, and challenges.
  • Academic Leadership:
    • Collaborate with the Chief Academic Officer to develop and execute district-wide academic goals, priorities, and strategic plans for educational excellence and student achievement at highschools
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of academic programming and instructional practices to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
    • Enhance and develop school and academic district leader capacities through the provision of coaching, training, and guidance to amplify the impact on student achievement.
    • Assess the effectiveness of leadership development initiatives and coaching programs for educators and school leaders.
    • Assess collaboration efforts among academic departments, school leaders, teachers, and community partners to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Innovation and Technology Integration:
    • Stay informed about educational trends, research, and emerging technologies.
    • Explore and implement innovative teaching methods and technology tools to enhance the learning experience for high school students.
Qualifications:
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Secondary Educational Leadership
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies aligned with district and state standards.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and supporting school improvement initiatives, with a focus on closing achievement gaps and promoting academic growth.
  • Proven ability to analyze data and use evidence-based decision-making to drive instructional improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.
  • Visionary and innovative thinker with the ability to lead transformational change in education.
