Friends seeks a warm, highly motivated and dedicated Preschool Associate Teacher who possesses an interest in and knowledge of early child development and progressive pedagogy, appreciation for the importance of actively teaching social & emotional skills, a commitment to diversity and social justice, and a demonstration of cultural competency. The successful candidate is inspired by the School’s mission and program and possesses passion and imagination they will bring to our school community.


Summary:
The Preschool Associate Teacher is responsible for partnering with the classroom Lead Teacher and Preschool Team. This involves supporting our Lead Teachers in implementing and differentiating a comprehensive age-appropriate play-based curriculum and helping to create a community of learners in the classroom who respect and care for one another. The Preschool Associate Teacher works collaboratively with the other classroom and specialist teachers and supports the cultivation of a community of learners in the classroom who respect and care for one another. The Preschool Associate Teacher participates fully in the life of the school and upholds the mission, vision and values of Friends School.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creating meaningful relationships with children and families.
  • Observing to understand, appreciate, and meet each child’s uniquenesses and needs. Promoting and advancing the cognitive, emotional, social and physical well-being of all students.
  • Providing appropriate challenges for children, taking into account individual learning styles.
  • Maintaining the classroom and outdoor environments and materials attractively and in support of learning.
  • Planning, setting up and facilitating student activities in the classroom including self-help routines.
  • Partnering with lead teacher to prepare for and participate in family conferences and all communications with families
  • Helping plan and participate in Preschool traditions and rituals.
  • Understanding and complying with all licensing and health department regulations.
  • Maintaining required student:teacher ratios during the day.
  • Completing, documenting, and maintaining all professional development and required trainings in the Colorado Professional Development Information System (PDIS) for Early Childhood Teacher qualifications, licensing, and health department compliance as needed for this role.

  • Cover classes or responsibilities during absences of other teachers as appropriate/necessary.


Advancing Self and School

  • Participate in regular meetings to address routine matters and stimulate an exchange of educational and philosophically-aligned ideas.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development by setting yearly goals, participating in staff development opportunities, and contributing to the exchange of philosophically-aligned ideas in regular meetings.
  • Set personal and professional yearly goals with the appropriate supervisor and complete the annual evaluation process in partnership with the supervisor.
  • Attend all full-staff meetings and school events (unless excused by HOS).
  • Participate in the school’s hiring processes as appropriate/necessary.

Other duties as assigned

Applicants must meet, or be willing to meet state qualifications for Early Childhood Teacher.

Compensation Range: $37,440 – $43,680/year
