    Job: Special Education Coordinator
    This postion is for the 2024-2025 school year, starting 7/1/2024. There are three positions available district-wide.

    Job Summary:
    The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the special education programs and services within the designated school building. This position requires collaboration with students, staff, parents, and district administrators to ensure the effective implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and support services for students with special needs. The coordinator will also be responsible for managing and coordinating resources, providing guidance and support to special education staff, and promoting inclusive practices within the school community.
    The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the academic progress and behavior data of students with disabilities within a school building. They work closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that students receive appropriate instruction, accommodations, and support. They also monitor compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to special education.This position reports directly to the Director of Special Services
    Responsibilities:
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of special education laws, regulations, and policies.
    • Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities using academic data to ensure students are making progress
    • Analyze academic and behavioral data to identify areas of strength and need for students with disabilities and provide recommendations for intervention and support
    • Collaborate with the special education team in the development and implementation of IEPs, ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines.
    • Provide coaching and feedback to special education teachers and staff on effective instructional strategies, data collection, and progress monitoring
    • Work in collaboration with building administrators to build student schedules that align with IEP services and needs.
    • Allocate building caseloads at the beginning of the school year and also throughout the year as students move into the district.
    • Coordinate and monitor the provision of appropriate services and accommodations for students with special needs
    • Collaborate with general education teachers and other stakeholders to promote inclusive practices and ensure the successful integration of students with special needs in the general education setting.
    • Provide guidance and support to teachers and other staff members on best practices for working with students with special needs.
    • Collect and analyze data related to student progress and program effectiveness, making recommendations for program improvements as necessary.
    • Facilitate communication between parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment for students with special needs.
    • Collaborate with district personnel to ensure proper allocation of resources, including staff, materials, and assistive technology.
    • Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in the field of special education, attending professional development opportunities and sharing knowledge with staff.
    • Provide coaching and feedback to special education teachers and staff on effective instructional strategies, data collection, and progress monitoring
    • Collaborate with general education teachers and staff to provide accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities in the classroom and during assessments
    • Analyze academic and behavioral data to identify areas of strength and need for students with disabilities and provide recommendations for intervention and support
    • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to special education, such as IDEA, Section 504 and ESSA.
    • Communicate and coordinate with parents, administrators, and outside agencies regarding the needs and services of students with disabilities
    Qualifications:
    • Hold a master's degree from a college or university that is accredited
    • Minnesota Department of Education Director of Special Education or K-12 Principal License
    • 5 years working as a special education teacher
