French American International is a PK-12 independent school in San Francisco. Position

This position is for a part-time English teacher position in our Early Childhood Education Center also known as the Preschool/Maternelle (Grade PK2-PK4), starting in August 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year.

The teacher will provide instruction in English to the PK2-K level. Instruction must be consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so that students meet the cognitive needs of each child and provide a wide range of materials for the varying English levels of students. They will need to possess a familiarity with many ways of approaching a subject, willingness to develop ones own materials and be open to learning new ways. Due to the diverse nature of our School, the teacher will need to be sensitive and open to the multiple cultural backgrounds of the students, to be collaborative and exhibit a sense of internationalism in the work environment.

Focus And Responsibilities

  • Create a nurturing, safe classroom community with, and for, students
  • Plan and teach the curriculum to PK2-PK4 school age children in a bilingual setting with a team teacher and a larger bilingual team
  • Implement the daily program of activities based on best practices and researched principles of child development and in accordance with the programs curriculum, social-emotional learning program (Positive Discipline) and school culture
  • Work closely with other French and English faculty and staff on multiple bilingual projects
  • Adapt to the bilingual environment and teaching methods of the school
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
  • Provide continuous student assessment, mid-year and end-of-year progress reports, and hold parent-teacher conferences twice a year
  • Attend regular meetings as needed
  • Successfully complete other professional responsibilities as assigned
  • Actively supervise students during class time, bathroom time, lunch time, transition times and during recess times
  • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of autonomy, self-esteem, and self-discipline
  • Assisting with diaper changes and toilet training as needed.
  • Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children
  • Intervene with vigilance and respect to help any child in need, prevent accident or injury to the degree possible, and in any situation requiring assistance
  • Establish a positive relationship with all members of our school community

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children (age 2-5 years old)
  • Bachelors Degree in Education
  • Certified in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of at least 12 Early Childhood Education Units
  • 3-5 years teaching experience
  • CPR & First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire
  • Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom.
  • Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
  • Able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs
  • Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
  • Work experience and exposure to diverse languages and cultures strongly preferred
  • Bilingual in French/English a plus
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Salary range for this position: $26,560 to $54,210 depending of experience and qualifications.
