Fremont Community School (FCS), a Waldorf-inspired, Emergent, Early Childhood Center in Seattle, Washington, is seeking individuals interested in a career in early childhood education.
Assistant Teacher – Child Care Center: Toddler and Preschool Programs
Early Childhood Education Certificate or Equivalent
Basic STARS training of 30 hours completed
Prefer at least one years’ experience working in early childhood education
Job Summary:
The Assistant Teacher provides support to the Lead Teachers in creating a safe and nurturing childcare center following a Waldorf-inspired, emergent curriculum of early childhood education, in line with the mission of the school. The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the management team to coordinate school resources to develop and implement the curriculum and maintain an unencumbered environment for the care and education of young children. The Assistant Teacher works with the entire FCS community to imagine, explore, and execute the steps necessary to enable FCS to move forward and thrive. The Assistant Teacher, together with other staff, will ensure the grounds and building reflect a welcoming and safe environment for children and their families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist with providing a rich learning environment that is in accordance with the philosophy of the school and ensures the needs of the children are met safely and according to their development.
2. Assist with compliance of licensing, training, and safety requirements.
3. Support a healthy daily rhythm schedule and assist with preparation of daily spaces, materials and activities, and lead children in activities according to established lesson plans.
4. Help maintain a clean and tidy classroom, and play yard.
5. Maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the school.
6. Participate in school festivals and events.
7. Ensure a cooperative atmosphere among staff.
8. Teach and model consistent, appropriate conflict resolution techniques in order that students and teachers may learn to discuss their problems and negotiate with each other.
9. Build strong, trustworthy connections with each child under your care.
10. Ensure that there is always adequate adult supervision in compliance with licensing student/staff ratios.
11. Change diapers, assist in toileting, and clean up bathroom accidents.
12. Ensure the safety and security of children and school grounds at all times.
13. Communicate any questions or concerns to management and Lead Teachers.
14. Report any suspicions of abuse or neglect to the Director, Assistant Director, or Administrator.
15. Maintain STARS training and fulfill annual professional development requirements.
Requirements:
o High School diploma or equivalent o Portable background check
o Negative TB Test / Proof of MMR vaccine
o 1st Aid/CPR Certificate: Infant/Child/Adult o Excellent rapport with children.
o Self-motivated and able to step in where needed with little direction.
o Have clear, positive, and open communication with all FCS community members.
o Excellent punctuality and reliability.
o Pleasant presence, tidy dress, patience.
o Willingness to be outside in all weather conditions.
o Able to lift 50 lbs.
SCHEDULE/HOURS: part-time and full-time schedules available, 12:30pm to 5:30pm or 7:30am to 4:00pm, Year-round – Monday through Friday.
