About the team

For this High School English Teacher position, you'll be working for our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 – graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. The Class of 2023 received acceptances into 81 unique colleges and universities and more than $10M in scholarship award offers. This success is possible because the Freire Wilmington community is a true family, where students and teachers work together to build the future each student wants and deserves.

What you'll do

As a member of Freire's instructional team, you'll work with high-quality, standard aligned curriculum to push critical thinking and high achievement in your classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a classroom culture of critical thinking, learning, respect, and high achievement for all students.
  • Leverage content specific curriculum and create learning materials to promote critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Establish consistent communication rhythms with families regarding individual student progress and school related information.
  • Actively participate in professional development and collaboration with staff to support the needs of our students.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Valid state teaching certification or the ability and willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong English Language Arts content knowledge
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done
  • At least 2 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations.

Pay and benefits

  • Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, salaries for certified teachers entering their first year of teaching start at $55,000. Freire Schools also offers a top-tier benefits package, a strong commitment to developing all staff as professionals, and the opportunity to work with the best students in Wilmington.

The annual salary range for this role is $50,000 - $90,000. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and more. Delaware employees are enrolled in Delaware's state pension plan (and may additionally choose to participate in the state's 403(b) retirement plan).
