Essential support system to Emergency Department, providing assistance with patient care and diagnostics. Assist nursing staff in provision of care for emergency patients by obtaining EKG's, phlebotomy, transport and C.N.A. type of care to patients.
Other duties may be assigned.
Perform 12-lead EKG's and submit results to professionals (RN/MD) for analysis.
Perform phlebotomy on patients in all age groups.
Collect and label specimens and send them to the laboratory.
Transport patients to other departments as necessary.
Perform vital signs (temp, pulse, respiration, BP, oximetry) and ADL's and record on ED Chart.
Checking equipment and stocking rooms as assigned and is responsible for instrument processing.
Assists nurses in care delivery or procedures as directed.
Assists MD with laceration repairs, casting and splinting. Washes simple wounds and applies simple splints.
Assist patients in preparing for examination by RN and MD.
Perform simple therapeutic measure such as application of heat/cold therapies, oxygen, blood glucose monitoring, bladder scanner, and application of a cardiac monitor.
Displays competency for the Emergency Department Technician role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent with 1-2 years of prior field-related and other job-related experience would be needed or especially helpful to successfully perform the duties of this position such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Required Experience: Proper usage of universal precautions and compliance with OSHA and CLEA regulations.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS required. CNA, EMT, or CMA certified.
