Summary

Manage and supervise all functions of the Freight Operations Department at the branch level. Manage to assigned budget. Focus on day to day operational efficiencies and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage employee staff. Conduct performance appraisals of personnel, recommend annual merit increases for staff.
  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and workflow.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are in place and being followed.
  • Interview, hire, train and supervise Freight Operations personnel.
  • Coordinate freight operation of all shows for the branch including the dock, marshalling yard, tools and equipment regardless of show size or facility.
  • Ensure Freeman policies and procedures are followed.
  • Schedule and conduct regular department meetings.
  • Communicate all corporate communications and changes to policies and procedures to staff.
  • Approve credit memos on material handling charges.
  • Respond to customer inquiries or complaints regarding material handling.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the labor budget and monitor freight billing.
  • Perform inquiries or reports in any of Freemans computer systems.
  • Ensure that all facility rules and regulations are followed.
  • Improves efficiency of department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • College Degree Preferred. High School Diploma Required.
  • Eight or more years of industry experience preferred.
  • Six or more years of budgetary and operational management experience preferred.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience managing supervisory roles.
  • Must be familiar with current material handling rates and show rules and regulations.
  • Experience with computer and web-based systems.
  • Versed in programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact appropriately with co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, sometimes stressful, and time-sensitive environment.
  • Must be able to pass an MVR screen.
