Freelin-Wade Co. is Hiring a Machine Operator - Swing Shift Near McMinnville, OR

As an Extruder (Machine) Operator you will set-up and operate extrusion equipment to produce a wide range of high-quality plastic tubing products that get used around the world.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate extrusion machines to produce tubing according to specifications: Activities include, but are not limited to, loading hoppers, setting dryers, installing tooling, setting rollers, “stringing-up” the extruder and setting up downstream equipment, i.e., pullers, printers, and measuring devices
  • Read and interpret job specifications from work orders
  • Continually conduct visual quality checks to ensure equipment and devices maintain settings and tubing measurements meet specifications
  • Wind tubing onto reels by operating auto-winders or by hand while achieving desired finish, form, and tension
  • Prepare final product: wrap material, affix reel cards and labels, and stage for Quality Assurance and material Handlers
  • Tag material to be sent to recycling
  • Perform extruder purging and cleaning operations
  • Record and maintain accurate job completion data as required
  • Meet or exceed standard production times stated on assigned work orders
  • Proactively work with other operators to ensure production lines continue to run and production hours and quality are met each day, e.g., cover for breaks and lunch, seek to assist other operators that need help
  • Perform final quality assurance checks on extrusion work orders and sign-off as the final QC
  • Communicate scheduling delays and concerns with the Lead Operator and/or Production Supervisor
  • Make recommendations to leads or supervisor regarding improvements in work processes, production methods, and process flow
  • Assists supervisor and leads, as needed, in the training of other employees

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain all equipment and workstation in clean and orderly condition following prescribed safety rules and regulations
  • Promote teamwork and a positive culture within the department and between all other departments and personnel
  • Continuously search for improvement methods in your everyday work
  • Other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, and EXPERIENCE

  • Previous mechanical process and troubleshooting experience or training OR
  • An acceptable combination of education, skills, knowledge, and ability
  • The ability to fulfill the Primary Purpose and perform the Essential Duties outlined in the Extrusion Operator job description by the end of the training program

Ability to:

  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos;
  • Write simple correspondence;
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals;
  • Calculate and convert units of measure including length, width, diameter and volume;
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions;
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Read tape measure to 1/16th of inch.
  • Read calipers to measure: pins/tubing
  • Read and understand air gauges.
  • Navigate in proprietary database systems;
  • Work independently and as a member of a group in a cooperative and collaborative manner;
  • Use or develop reliable systems and work habits to effectively prioritize and organize a multitude of tasks;
  • Identify potential problems and independently seek out alternative solutions, including research, trial tests and communication of activities to others.
