Freedom House Ministries is open 24 hours every day of the year providing shelter for families experiencing homelessness. Through meeting basic needs and providing comprehensive programming, our mission is to walk alongside families as they work to become self-sufficient.

Position Objective:

Success Advocates manage daily tasks to keep the Shelter running smoothly, including serving meals, housekeeping and hospitality tasks. Hospitality is important to us - we want families to feel welcomed and come out of "crisis mode" to be able to make decisions for the future of their families. Success Advocates play a big role in making families feel at home - this includes being an ear to listen and a supportive, professional role model.

We need to provide consistent shelter coverage every day of the year. With that said, we have a variety of shift coverage, that could be flexible to meet your needs!

We are looking to fill overnight shifts (12am-8am) weekly and on weekends and a evening shift (4pm-12am) every other weekend. As well as a fill-in willing to cover when open shifts arise.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain a safe, supportive environment within the facility
• Ensure residents are following guidelines
• Serve meals that have been prepped by Creative Culinary Coordinator or assist volunteers who are serving meals
• Maintain a home-like atmosphere through tasks like cleaning and organization
• Encourage completion of chores by residents
• Perform general administrative duties such as answering the door and phone at the front desk or making copies of a resume for a resident!
• Turnover and clean resident rooms, as needed (following a family moving out) and prepare the room for new families
• Provide supportive listening for and maintain professional boundaries with residents, as needed.
• Build relationships with helpful community members by guiding and assisting them as they donate items or volunteer their time
• Take advantage of opportunities to grow as a professional by attending provided workshops and trainings

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
• Computer literacy
• Ability to maintain clear personal and professional boundaries
• Ability to work effectively in a constantly changing and sometimes stressful environment, while maintaining a positive, solution-oriented approach
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Cooperative, friendly and helpful attitude with residents and other staff members.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to walk for your entire shift (3-12 hours per day) with intermittent occasional standing, bending, squatting or climbing
• Ability to remain alert and on duty throughout shifts.
• Ability to lift over 50 pounds (when necessary)
