Freedom Boat Club of Maine is Hiring a Dockhand Near Yarmouth, ME

Spend your summer in Yarmouth managing our Freedom Boat Club location a Yarmouth Boat Yard, with the support of our operations team. Our season runs from May 15 - October 15.

Do you love working outside? Do you love the water? Do you love boating?

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who love boats and being around the water. Offering a flexible schedule and a fun work environment. You will assist members with boat reservations, prepare and clean boats for outings, ensure safety on the docks and work with our Dockmaster to provide an outstanding boating experience for our members and their guests. Freedom Boat Club is the nation’s oldest and largest private member boat club, and we are looking for friendly and upbeat individuals to greet members and work on the docks. This position is part-time and requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Position Details

Job Status: Part-time, seasonal

Department: Operations Department

Supervisor: Freedom Boat Club (FBC) Director of Operations

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary: $15-$18 per hour

Pay Type: Hourly compensation based on experience and performance.

The dockhand is responsible for all FBC vessels being properly maintained to the highest standards. Responsible for ensuring the safety of those using the boats, to prolong the useful life of the boats and to protect the clubs’ significant investments.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet customers in a friendly, upbeat, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Assist customers with boarding / un-boarding boats with emphasis on safety.
  • Assist with docking and fueling boats.
  • Clean and sanitize boats and stage equipment for next outings.
  • Inspect boats for safety, equipment checks, tie-up and proper slip location.
  • Ensure docks are clean and presentable.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, positive attitude during periods of high activity.
  • Must love working around the water and providing impeccable customer service.
  • Always operate with an emphasis on guest hospitality
  • Work with Dockmaster to ensure customer service standards of quality are met.
  • Daily clerical work to prepare reservation log, fuel log and weather reports.
  • Familiarize yourself with local waters to provide basic chart guidance to customers.

Skills & Requirements

  • Seeking a candidate that has a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and is a great team player.
  • Must be a self-starter and capable of working unsupervised.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented and adhere to all safety policies.
  • Must have strong communication and friendly customer service skills.
  • Boating experience in and around boats 18-24' in length (basic knowledge of how to operate a boat) is preferable but will train.
  • Previous marina and/or customer service experience preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs., board and un-board boats dozens of times per day as well as kneel and bend to clean boats.
  • This position requires the employee to spend 90% of the day outside in all weather conditions and weekend/holiday shifts are required.
  • Some weekend and holiday work are required.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must pass a background check (for applicants 21 or older)

In Kennebunk.
