    Salary
    • Technology Salary Grade T13: $35.32 per hour; starting
    Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System.
    Role
    Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Network Infrastructure and Security, the Network Technician provides technical direction and expertise of facility based wired and wireless Local Area Networks including configuration, installation, troubleshooting and ongoing maintenance.
    Essential Functions
    • Performs network related duties with a primary focus on supporting Local Area Networks and telecommunication installations, configurations, connectivity, monitoring, resolving and repair of network/IP related problems and centralized management and automation
    • Configuration, installation and troubleshooting of Wireless Access Points
    • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots all network and telecommunication infrastructure including client/application/IP connectivity and sub-systems.
    • Serves as the first point of contact for technical and service related problems for end users.
    • Proactively researches, analyzes, identifies and resolves trends of utilization or errors and implements appropriate performance tuning and troubleshooting techniques.
    • Respond to end user requests for moves, adds, changes, and repairs throughout the organization.
    • Perform network equipment installations/configurations, closet cabling punch downs, activates network ports as appropriate for requests and installs network cabling.
    • Monitor systems management and monitoring tools; proactively troubleshoot and resolve identified telecommunication and network issues.
    • Communicate with end users and maintain tracking of individually assigned projects.
    • Researches, investigates and implements new technologies.
    • Monitor, maintain, and restore network backups and configurations.
    • Document all network technician processes and installation procedures.
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
    Other Functions
    • Remain technically current and competent by learning new technologies and obtaining certifications as requested by management.
    • Oversee telecommunications bills and services, oversee purchasing of network related equipment, open and work with TAC cases to resolve issues.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Required Qualifications
    • Associates Degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education, certifications or IP technical experience.
    • CompTIA Network or Cisco CCNA certification.
    • Two (2) years’ full time experience providing network support within a large scale converged Ethernet infrastructure including experience with switch installations, network equipment installations, IP telephony systems installations, Wireless Access Points, configurations, maintenance and troubleshooting.
    • Minimum two (2) years’ experience troubleshooting, implementing, maintaining, and building configurations on switches.
    • Demonstrated experience and broad knowledge of switch protocols, TCP/IP protocols, telecommunication protocols (IP), H323, SIP, QOS, VLANs, ACL’s, DHCP, DNS, TFTP, STP, SNMP, POE, 802.1x, WLAN / 802.11, etc
    • Hands on experience with Cat5/Cat6e terminations and installations and hands on experience with Fiber and Copper TDM testing units.
    • Demonstrated experience with network monitoring tools, preferably Solarwinds and WUG.
    • Demonstrated experience performing and analyzing network packet captures using packet analyzers such as Wireshark.
    • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of operating systems (Windows).
    • Ability to work off-hours as needed/required.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated ability to independently and effectively complete work assignments and projects in a timely fashion.
    • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • Regular and predictable attendance.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting client-side unified communications technologies such as Microsoft Skype for Business and other Unified Communication applications
    • Understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, Network Policy Sever and Exchange Mail technologies.
    • Experience with Windows Servers.
    • Experience with installation, configuring and troubleshooting wireless technologies.
    • Work experience in K-12 educational setting.
    • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
