Frederick County Public Schools is Hiring a Grounds Crew Worker I Near Frederick, MD
- 12-month position (260 days / year), 8 hours per day
- Daily work hours: TBD
- Support Salary Grade S04: $17.80 per hour; starting
- Mows lawns using hand and/or power equipment.
- Plants, transplants, and prunes shrubs and trees.
- Fertilizes lawns, play areas, and athletic fields including aeration.
- Assists in cutting down and removing dead or hazardous trees.
- Removes dirt and rubbish from grounds.
- Places mulch around shrubs, trees, and playgrounds at assigned sites.
- Spreads sand, gravel, dirt and mulch on various school sites.
- Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots.
- Assists other grounds crew workers.
- Repairs and installs fences and signs.
- Assists in patching blacktop/asphalt areas, including tracks.
- Transports items for welding to the landfill and recycling areas.
- Repairs dumpsters.
- Attends to the general care and upkeep of athletic fields.
- Operates all FCPS vehicles with the exception of those that need a CDL license, when required.
- Repairs and removes playground equipment.
- Responds to emergency weather conditions “off-hours” as required.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read.
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of herbicides and insecticide application.
- A valid CDL license.
- Operating experience with dump trucks, tractors, mowers, and snow removal equipment.
- Experience with trailer towing techniques for pickup and delivery of both heavy and light grounds equipment.
- Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
