Frederick County Public Schools is Hiring a Coordinator of Family and Community Engagement (SBO) Near Winchester, VA

Summary:

 The Coordinator of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) researches, develops and implements a family and community engagement program within and on behalf of Frederick County Public Schools. These initiatives include direct family outreach, language interpretation and support for multilingual families, support for school-based family outreach, and coordination of partnerships and community advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, public relations, communications, or closely related field and/or three to five years of or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience in community engagement, marketing, and/or communications preferred;
  • Demonstrated successful experience organizing groups and events, making presentations, working with volunteers and/or community organizations, and coaching others in doing so;
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with organizations (businesses and service organizations) and communicate openly and effectively with students, families, community patrons, staff and administration as a positive representative of Frederick County Public Schools;
  • Ability to work effectively with school staff, families, the community, local organizations, and diverse socioeconomic groups; a history of working collaboratively with schools, families and communities;
  • Ability to develop and implement programs to involve families and the community in school affairs;
  • A positive, energetic attitude;
  • Broad knowledge of family engagement programs and techniques;
  • Broad knowledge of the Frederick County Public Schools curriculum, guidelines and programs;
  • Knowledge of the school division’s community and organizations;
  • Effective interpersonal skills/ human relations skills;
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills along with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage projects with a high degree of accuracy and limited direction;
  • Proficiency with digital tools, including graphic design software and Google Suite; 

Essential Functions:

  • Develops a strategic plan for family and community engagement initiatives that is reflective of individual school needs;
  • Develops and maintains strategies to ensure constant dialogue between schools, families and the community;
  • Supports schools in the development and implementation of family engagement programs; 
  • Provides advocacy for all families to address the unique needs of students with an emphasis on low-income children, children with disabilities, English learners, racial and ethnic minorities, students experiencing homelessness and foster care youth;
  • Participates in community collaborations and initiatives on behalf of Frederick County Public Schools.
  • Develops and fosters a wide array of partnerships with community agencies, local businesses and corporations to improve school/community relations.
  • Facilitates professional learning opportunities for families and community partners; 
  • Oversees in-person and virtual workshops for families and community members;
  • Establishes and maintains an internal hub of family engagement resources and strategies to equip school staff;
  • Provides just-in-time resources to parents and the community through a variety of communication channels;
  • Assists in maintaining and updating the related pages on the Division website;
  • Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g., recognition programs, special events, workshops);
  • Contributes content (e.g., updates, pictures, relevant information about school events and programs) to be shared through the school division’s communication channels; 
  • Establishes and maintains an online hub of resources for families
  • Oversees language interpretation at the division level and coordinates multilingual family support. 
  • Establishes a family welcome center
  • Collaborates with Bright Futures, FCPS Student Support Services, Special Educational Services and other departments to support families. 

Pay Rate:

The salary range is $64,520-$108,852

Contract:
Full time / 12 months / 245 days
