The Senior UX/UI Designer supports the design, production, and extension of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center’s brand as part of the UX, Design & Development team within the Marketing & Communications department.

Our User Experience, Design and Web Development team is focused on how to extend the Fred Hutch brand to drive measurable engagement across audiences (patients, caregivers, donors, scientific peers, business partners and the healthcare community) in support of our mission to cure, prevent and treat cancer and other devastating diseases. You will build collaborative relationships with faculty and staff, digital producers, developers, analysts, and writers to continuously develop and design better online tools, print pieces and experiences while strengthening the Fred Hutch brand.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization and within the Marketing & Communications team to create a wide range of digital and print designs and user-centered projects that are beautifully conceived and strategically aligned from initial concept to final deliverable.
  • Collaborate with digital producers, multimedia editors, web developers and content strategists to create new interactive features and functionality for our internal and external websites.
  • Apply (and evolve) design thinking across print projects, digital campaigns, video/multimedia, and websites by employing classic design principles (color, typography, packaging, photo editing, conceptual illustration), best practices in UX/UI, accessibility, audience engagement and brand expression.
  • Turn complex information into simple, engaging experiences, whether informational graphics (maps, charts, diagrams), data visualizations, conceptual illustrations, and/or PowerPoint presentations.
  • Develop and cultivate collaborative relationships across campus.
  • Create functional prototypes and can translate usability testing and research findings into design improvements. 
  • Provide quality control on all elements of print and digital production.
  • Provide thought leadership in user experience and brand expression and brand extension.
  • Balance design with technical feasibility and industry best-practices.
  • Keep current with technologies and trends to enhance and improve our existing digital/print properties and design processes.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS/MS in Fine Arts, User Experience Design, Graphic Design, or an online portfolio of work that demonstrates design excellence in print and digital.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working on design team or in an agency setting.
  • Skillset that bridges design and technical expertise with a high proficiency in: Adobe Creative Suite applications, Figma, CSS, HTML, Agile methodologies, Asana.
  • Demonstrated experience as an effective self-starter, creative problem solver.
  • Ability to take direction and give design direction to meet creative and organizational objectives.
  • Deadline-driven with a track record of completing and delivering quality products.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other designers, producers, developers, and campus stakeholders.
  • Ability to juggle and complete competing projects and deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Team player and adaptable to changing needs and priorities. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluent in responsive design and accessibility standards
  • Experience with design system management, Canva, Sketch and Zeplin
  • Naturally curious, loves learning new technologies

The annual base salary range for this position is from $104,416 to $165,006, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security. Benefits include medical/vision, dental, flexible spending accounts, life, disability, retirement, family life support, employee assistance program, onsite health clinic, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation (12-22 days per year), paid sick leave (12-25 days per year), paid holidays (13 days per year), paid parental leave (up to 4 weeks), and partially paid sabbatical leave (up to 6 months).
