Avalon is a short stay residential therapeutic program and non-public school for youth ages 12 to 18 with a dual diagnosis of serious emotional disturbance and developmental disability. The youth are referred to Avalon because their behavior cannot be managed by their caretaker.
The program provides a safe, stable, and highly structured environment by combining intensive staffing, mental health interventions and behavior modification. Individual, group and family therapy is a part of everyday life. The goal of the program is to maximize a resident's level of functioning to enable them to engage in a pattern of everyday living similar to that of non-disabled peers.

With a multidisciplinary team comprised of highly experienced staff, the rates of success of Avalon are high. After a one year to 18-month stay, 100% of youth had decreased symptoms after completing the program. More than 57% of students achieved their Individual Education Plan goals.
Join our team as: Substitute Special Education Teacher
What You Will Do
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for teaching students with disabilities and managing the classroom daily. Monitor all assigned youths' progress, assign and direct the work of the Instructional Aides, including on special projects; design and implement the class curriculum, and work with the School Director on helping each youth to meet his/her Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and other projects as needed.

Salary Range In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is between $33.03 and $53.80 per hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

What You Bring to The Table (requirements):

• Bachelor degree from an accredited college/university required.
• Must have passed California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) OR hold a BA degree in Liberal Arts.
• Must meet one of the following criteria:
• Hold an Education Specialist Instruction Credential, mild moderate or moderate severe OR Preliminary Level 1 Education Specialist Instruction Credential.
• The candidate must have the exact credential, Level 1 or Clear.
• Be enrolled in an Internship Education Specialist Instruction Program and hold an Internship Education Specialist Instruction Credential.
• Have an Emergency Substitute Permit, Substitute Permit, or other current teaching credential. This criteria is ONLY applicable if working in a Substitute Teacher capacity for 20 days or less.
