Description

Franklin Public Schools runs an alternative education program at Milwaukee County’s Community Reintegration Center, a local jail. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, tailored environment where students engage in learning to develop the skills and habits needed to be successful in school and in life. Teachers work with students to develop individualized learning plans to meet the academic, social, emotional, and life goals of students. Learning is available to students aged 16 through 21. The program follows the Franklin Public Schools district calendar.

This is a full-time school year position including summer school (must be willing to work summer school if needed). The position includes a full benefits package including health insurance. Wage $19.00. Our team of two teachers and an Educational Assistant works with youth who are incarcerated in a large classroom within the Community Reitegration Center to achieve our mission of providing a safe, nurturing, tailored environment where students engage in learning to develop the skills and habits needed to be successful in school and in life.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills.
  • Assist with clerical tasks.
-Be familiar with all classroom rules and procedures and provide assistance and direction to students in a positive but firm manner. -
  • *Willing to be trained to perform medical procedures such as care for diabetic students and administer Epi-pen. etc. Not a job duty for this job but may be a job duty if transferred to another school.
Finalists for this position must complete Milwaukee County’s background check process to work on site and completion of Franklin Public Schools hiring process will be contingent upon approval to work at the Community Reintegration Center and a follow up on-site interview.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Above average human relations skills, demonstrating effective verbal/written communications with students, staff, parents and others encountered on the job.
  • Initiative and self-motivation to work independently.
  • Interest in being part of the classroom’s cooperative and collaborative effort in providing the best educational opportunities to all students.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in enforcing school rules.
Ability to work in a positive manner and keep school matters confidential.
  • Position requires ability to be on your feet for long periods of time (walking, stair climbing).
  • Knowledgeable about curriculum content and subject matter.
  • Knowledge of computer data entry and word processing, typing, filing, and copying.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the district may find appropriate and acceptable.
Requirements Specific to Posted Position:
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (2 yr Associates Degree preferred but not required).
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and available transportation.
  • Knowledge of computer applications for program records management or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to support students in computer-assisted learning.
  • Strong math and language skills to support students working to obtain their GED.
  • Willing to work as a team player in a dynamic and diverse learning environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
