JOB SUMMARY
Security Supervisor provides leadership to ensure the security of the facility and staff as well as excellent customer service for internal and external customers. The Security Supervisor is a leader to the security team for day-to-day operations.
Additional Information: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The selected candidate will be eligible for the Conservatory's benefit package offered to full-time employees, which includes medical, dental and vision insurance, company paid Life/AD&D/Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement Program (OPERS), optional 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan, accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) which starts at 23 days annually, accrued Sick Time, 3 paid holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day), and complimentary membership to the Conservatory.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the physical security of FPC and the people in it.
- Conducts interviews, selection, training, scheduling and performance appraisals for the Security team.
- Ensure training and development plans for the Security team are scheduled, completed and evaluated to result in a well trained and engaged staff.
- Act as liaison between leadership and staff to ensure proper communication.
- Monitor the Secure Operations Center (SOC), provide break support, manage the daily Security Associate assignments, open and close the facility.
- Function as a liaison between the Visitor Experience Associates and other departments including attending meetings as the department representative.
- Respond to the Secure Operations Center (SOC) in the event of activation of the emergency operations plan, representing Security until relieved. Act as a first responder, follow and provide appropriate responses during the activation of emergency operation plans. Protect persons and facilities during floods, fires, structural damages, utility outages, special events or during various security incidents.
- Perform daily inspections of the facility, doors, locks, public and private spaces. Promptly report and document any damage in accordance with FPC's safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with parking management as needed.
- Inspect incoming packages and deliveries to the building.
- Ensure accurate production of ID cards for staff and visitors.
- Serve as the first responder for incidents including injuries, emergency procedures, and de-escalation of visitors, filling out accurate and timely incident reports.
- Ensure that visitors comply with FPC's policies by proactively communicating those policies in a direct, friendly, and respectful manner.
- Participate in and lead regular professional development workshops about FPC security policy and procedures, learning, visitor engagement, professional behavior, customer service, and exhibition content.
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with colleagues to improve team effectiveness.
- Monitor the visitor entrance including controlling crowds and entrance flow; greeting visitors; and providing directions, as necessary.
- Manage and monitor building entrances including watching all security access control systems, alarms, doors, keys, badges, and receiving deliveries.
- Ensure all staff, visitors, and vendors are registered properly before entering secure areas of the property.
- Maintain standards and set a positive example in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance.
- Oversee necessary supplies for front end operations including parking, first aid, and general office supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates focus on serving the guests of Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Age 21
- High school degree, GED, or equivalent
- Must have three to five years supervisory and customer service experience.
- Experience in safety and/or security preferred (experience with non-profit, cultural organization, or entertainment venue preferred.)
- Must have a driver's license; and the ability to meet and maintain the insurance guidelines set by Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical gardens (FPC) insurance company for driving vehicles.
- Must have or obtain upon relocation a driver's license issued by the state of Ohio within one to three years of hiring.
- First Aid, CPR, AED Certification preferred.

- Ability to work weekdays, weekends, occasional evenings, holidays and additional hours as assigned to meet shift staffing standards, and emergent staffing needs.
- Proficient with computer systems, including spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, computer-aided dispatch, alarm systems, access control software, and surveillance cameras.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand, walk, and be attentive and engaged for extended periods of time while performing duties.
- Must be able to use a full range of body movement to assist visitors and ensure safety.
- Must be able to walk on flat or incline surfaces (up and down) and go up and down stairs, especially in emergency situations.
- May occasionally have to climb or balance.
- Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
