Franklin County is Hiring an Animal Services Outreach Coordinator Near Louisburg, NC

An employee in this class develops, initiates, coordinates, and executes a good will, informational and education outreach program to promote animal welfare within the Animal Services Department. Coordinates all activities, planning, organizing, and implements all aspects of the Franklin County Animal Center volunteer program. Employee duties include development, implementation, and monitoring programs and community outreach efforts designed to reduce pet overpopulation and improve the lives of companion animals. Provides leadership and direction to volunteers. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Animal Services Manager and is evaluated through observation and review of reports.Develops, implements, maintains, and coordinates volunteer and outreach programs for the Animal Services Department.
Monitors and evaluates volunteer and outreach programs; make recommendations for modifications to programs; implements modifications as approved and within the scope of authority for the position.
Recruits, interviews, orients, evaluates, places, and schedules shelter volunteers, trains volunteers on their roles in relation to the expected duties of the Animal Services Department and other department employees.
Organizes and coordinates volunteers to complete and assist with new and existing projects and to socialize shelter animals.
Supervises volunteers on a regular basis.
Oversees and performs a variety of duties directly related to placing and finding homes for animals.
Actively participates in a variety of animal contact duties including but not limited to vaccinating and transporting animals, performing animal care and feeding duties, and socializing and grooming animals to increase adoptability.
Implements and maintains a foster care program targeted at underage and other animals that cannot be appropriately housed and cared for in a shelter environment. Coordinate with rescue groups to take animals from the shelter.
Organizes and maintains a regular schedule of public education including making and ensuring visits to schools, churches, and various community organizations; conduct public school education and community group presentations.
Gathers, maintains, and analyzes information regarding volunteer and community outreach programs.
Independently prepares reports, correspondence, recommendations, and other material for the department.
Assist and provides information to employees and the public as needed.
Takes payments and balances cash drawer.
Performs a wide variety of support duties for Animal Services Department.
Work includes a flexible schedule as needed and/or other non-traditional workweek which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Graduation from high school with one to three years’ experience in animal services, animal health, animal care and welfare or animal center operations. Experience in managing a volunteer program is required
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting, smelling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and perform repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 25 pounds of force constantly.
Must possess the visual acuity to perform animal care work.
May be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Ability to obtain North Carolina Euthanasia Certification (C.E.T).
Ability to obtain Certified Rabies Vaccinator (C.R.V) certification.
Must be able to attend state and national trainings held out of town where short time away from home may be necessary.
Must be able to receive a series of rabies prophylactic vaccines.
