Summary:
The Controller will report directly to the General Manager.The position will be responsible for directing and overseeing all accountingand finance functions applicable to the division.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Controller will perform the following duties andadditional projects or duties as assigned:
Accounting/Finance
- Strong understanding of Grain and Commodity Tradeaccounting, including mark-to-market, inventory, billing, and receivables.
Strong understanding of component cost accounting formanufacturing unit.- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including grainaccounting, A/R, A/P, inventory.
- Direct the preparation of the monthly and year-endfinancials statements, ensuring a quick and accurate close.
- Reconcile margin projections by revenue managers to actualP&L results. Provide feedback to revenue managers regarding any variances.
- Compile mid-month and end-of-month gross margin andconsolidated projections
- EnSure balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly withsupporting documentation.
- Coordinate the annual budgeting process.
- Provide routine contract and pricing audit reports to grainmerchandisers and merchandiser assistants for review.
- Provide routine gross margin analysis reporting to feed-millgroup.
- Coordinate capital expenditure accounting, including projectcost projections, setting depreciation rates, monitoring construction inprogress, and reviewing the asset schedule for accuracy.
Leadership
- Ability to lead accounting and administrative team bydirecting daily responsibilities of staff, conduct staff meetings, supervisestaff and adhere to HR policies.
- Present financial and analytical reports to the leadershipgroup of the division, as well as periodic presentations to corporateleadership groups.
- Be a safety leader by following safety policies anddirecting staff to maintain a safe working environment.
- Understand all administrative and accounting functions inorder to recommend improvements to processes.
- Compliance
- Ensure proper internal control procedures are in place forall business activities.
- Assist with annual audit as directed by the corporateoffice.
- Maintain compliance with external agencies, including statetax departments, local property taxing agencies, grain licenses, motor vehiclesdepartments, etc.
- Oversee coordination and compliance with UCC/EFS liens onfirst handled grain purchased from farmers.
Special Projects
- Assist General Manager and Executive group with ad hocreporting, projections, and business analysis as needed.
- Assist General Manger with business modeling for potentialrevenue opportunities.
- Coordinate with IT on system updates, improvements, andtechnology (i.e. cell phones, laptops, desk terminals) needs for divisionstaff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or relatedbusiness field
- Minimum 5 years of financial leadership and managementexperience
- Grain and feed industry knowledge or experience withmark-to-market accounting is strongly desired
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to communicate with management, team members, andsupport staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel andOutlook
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
