Job Title: Respiratory Care Director of Clinical Education

Primary Function of Position: Responsible for conducting a competency-based instructional program in respiratory care. Instructs students in theory, professionalism, and competencies necessary for coordinating clinical affiliates and for the content, quality, and evaluation of clinical courses.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teaches students using instructional methods consistent with effective teaching strategies in the educational setting.
  • Utilizes the district’s Learning Management System and a variety of instructional materials to enhance the delivery of instruction to accommodate student's learning styles.
  • Evaluates student achievement based on tests and lab skill check-offs according to grading policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate student records including attendance and academic progress in the attendance and computer grade book system.
  • Serves as a professional role model for students by involvement and support in professional development activities and in professional organizations.
  • Provides student instruction and supervision in the clinical setting.
  • Assigns students to learning experiences based on clinical objectives and individual learning needs.
  • Provides instructional leadership at the clinical site and portrays a professional role model for students.
  • Develops and maintains rapport and communication with clinical affiliate adjunct faculty.
  • Evaluates student's performance based on clinical objectives, daily clinical planners, and grading criteria.
  • Responsible for planning and coordinating student learning activities at clinical sites.
  • Collaborates with program faculty to determine clinical teaching assignments.
  • Coordinates student clinical rotations with clinical facilities’ site coordinators.
  • Coordinates evaluation procedures for students, faculty, adjunct faculty, physicians, and clinical facilities.
  • Maintains student clinical records including physical exams, clinical planners, affective domains, and progress reports.
  • Coordinates the development, revision, and evaluation of students’ clinical policies and procedures handbooks. Updates clinical facilities of policy changes.
  • Coordinates the development of clinical syllabi.
  • Facilitates adjunct faculty meetings, orientation sessions, and maintains records.
  • Arranges physician contact with Medical Director and other physicians.
  • Serves as contact person between the RC program and affiliating health care agencies and maintains letters of agreement.
  • Organizes and develops curriculum to implement competency-based instruction.
  • Works cooperatively with the accrediting agencies, the community and other school departments to accomplish the stated goals of the program and the Health Sciences.
  • Assist in completing Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and school reports including student follow-up and job placement.
  • Assists in preparing the program budget request; operates within the program budget following established procedures.
  • Works cooperatively with the advisory committee and the health community to prepare students for employment and to maintain positive business and industry relationships.
  • Maintains professional credentials and licensure.
  • Maintains/documents current personal health records and required vaccinations.
  • Develops and implements a recruitment plan for the Respiratory Care program.
  • Ability to be present on the job as described under working conditions and contract details.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education required.
  • Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and current state license.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience as a RRT with at least two years in clinical respiratory care.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program as a faculty member of as a clinical preceptor.
  • Must meet all clinical facility contractual agreement requirements to include background check and drug screen.
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership and supervision.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and direction.
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft office components (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to consistently deliver superior customer service to internal and external customers.

Working Conditions: Steady physical activity is required during days of clinical rotations consisting of walking and standing. Strenuous physical activity is required intermittently when assisting in moving of patients and/or equipment. Conditions are often less than optimal when dealing with patient care, and there is occasional to frequent exposure to communicable disease. Proper precautions relating to infection control and safety must be known and applied. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply require that personal protective equipment be worn in these circumstances. Must be able to show proof of good health and have proof of all vaccinations required at all clinical affiliate sites. Travel between various hospitals each day is required during clinical rotations. Reliable, dependable and punctual attendance. This is not an exhaustive list and reasonable accommodations will be made as needed.

Organizational Relationship: Full-time, exempt personnel position assigned to the office of the Director of Health Sciences reports directly to the Director of Respiratory Care Program. Evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy.

Contract Details: Eleven and a half month contract subject to annual renewal. Working days and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or as otherwise assigned (35 hours/week).
