Four States Surgery Center is Hiring a Sterile Processing Technician Near Joplin, MO

JOB SUMMARY

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for overseeing the sterilization and decontamination of medical equipment, instruments, and supplies. Ther Sterile Processing technician maintains, tests, and assembles equipment in support of the surgeries performed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

· Collect used and contaminated equipment, instruments and supplies for sorting and decontamination.

· Cleaning supplies of contaminates, removing waste matter and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.

· Assemble supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards.

· Inspect equipment for proper working condition, ensure instruments are sterilized and prepare trays with appropriate instruments, sponges, and dressings; maintain the availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays. Report any issues or problems with sterilized equipment.

· Adhere to aseptic techniques and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures.

· Maintain a clean operating room, clean reusable instruments prior to sterilization, and restock the supply room with supplies.

· Maintain instrument logs of sterilization equipment, sterilized items, equipment maintenance and supplies.

· Respond in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and surgeon.

· Follow all company policies and procedures.

· Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.

· Perform all other duties as assigned.

Based on the essential duties listed above, this position is considered safety and security-sensitive and therefore all work must be performed in accordance with quality standards and established safety and security procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Working knowledge of operating/procedure room equipment and surgical instruments.

· Demonstrated knowledge of the care, maintenance, and various sterilization techniques used in the processing of surgical instrumentation.

· Ability to use facility resources appropriately and avoid wasteful practices.

· Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with surgeons, and coworkers.

· Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail and being highly organized.

· Ability to move quickly, make frequent judgments, and respond to routine problems or emergencies.

· Ability to perform work in a safe manner while complying with all safety policies and procedures.

· Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

· Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

· High school diploma or equivalent GED required.

· Previous experience in a clinical setting is preferred.

· Previous hands-on training in sterilization techniques, equipment handling, patient care/safety, medical terminology, and anatomy is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The Sterile Processing Technician regularly interacts with patients, surgeons, coworkers, and other third parties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

· Frequently required to sit, stand, and move about the work area to perform job duties.

· Frequently required to lift and carry up to 100 pounds to transport patients, equipment, supplies, or other items from one area to another.

· Constantly required to extend and use upper extremities to reach, push, and pull to operate equipment and other devices, and to pass instruments.

· Constantly required to use manual dexterity to handle and grasp equipment, instruments, or other objects.

· Constantly required to use visual acuity to make observations, perform work on a computer, and read documents.

Duties are regularly performed in a sterile environment. The work environment is usually a well-lighted environmentally controlled indoor environment with a moderate level of noise. May be exposed to hazardous equipment and sharp instruments. Possible exposure to patients or coworkers with communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
