Overview

This position is responsible for daily plant operations, which includes workflow and operational integrity of the facility and its equipment. This position supervises the plant ops staff, ensuring all tasks are completed timely and accurately, lending expertise when needed. This position is responsible for overseeing preventative and corrective work to the facility center's operations of the power plant and facility infrastructure equipment including, mechanical equipment boilers, cogenerator engines, chillers and emergency generators. Oversees the review of construction and remodeling projects, and contracted mechanical work for code compliance and compatibility to existing mechanical and electrical systems. Oversees the monitoring of the facilities automated systems including tube transport, fire alarm system, elevators and medical gas systems. Works with and assists other trades in completing required tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, conducts performance evaluations, and directs the workflow for staff. This position is also accountable for participating in the development and implementation of department goals and objectives. Ensures all goals and objectives are met and ensures regulatory compliance for all assigned responsibilities and equipment. Assists the Manager and/or Director in working with department personnel on departmental budgetary planning and management for budgetary control, cost projections, and feasibility for all related activities and projects.
  • Responsible for day-to-day staff management and administration, which includes managing staff timecards and schedules, appropriate new hire readiness/processing/partnering, staff FTE status changes, staffing levels, staff development and education, corrective action management, staff portfolio audits, staff education completion, staff timely staff termination processing, etc. Creates and fosters a culture of health, safety, and camaraderie within the department.
  • Ensures infrastructure and utility system parts, materials and supplies are appropriate for budgetary constraints. Ensures infrastructure and utility replacement schedules are managed appropriately, and maintains records to keep within the projected capital equipment budget.
  • Evaluates and resolves complex infrastructure, utility, personnel, and other plant operations related issues. Makes recommendations to department management. Ensures success of the preventative maintenance program for all utility and infrastructure systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, medical gas systems, water treatment programs, water distribution systems, building management systems, emergency generators and all associated components in order to ensure the integrity and reliability of the utility distribution systems.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance, and compliance with work standards, codes and safety regulations for the facility. Develops and implements processes for compliance in all areas of responsibility. Ensures successful record maintenance for facility compliance with all applicable Authorities Having Jurisdiction including local, state, federal and all other regulatory codes pertaining to any and all components of the facilities infrastructure and utility systems. Enforces corrective action measures for non-compliance. As required, implements and attends annual code compliance and update training.
  • Manages and ensures successful collaboration with all other divisions and departments to meet the facility infrastructure and utility maintenance, installation and construction needs. Negotiates priorities, plans staff work schedules and job assignments. Recommends use of outside mechanical and utility specialty contractors as appropriate. Ensures outside mechanical and utility specialty contractors are compliant with established hospital system standards. Enforces corrective action measures for non-compliance.
  • Ensures and monitors personnel instruction regarding infrastructure and utility hazards to ensure the safe operation and use of equipment. Ensures guidance, direction and oversight for infrastructure and utility training is completed timely. Coordinates the plant ops team to ensure continuing educational materials are offered for infrastructure training.
  • Provides leadership and directs the work of other facilities related department staff in the absence of their direct supervisor(s) or foreman.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

    Qualifications

    High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge, plus vocational or technical training. Must possess a valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.Requires a proficiency level typically achieved in 5 years of progressive experience in facilities services, preferably in healthcare. Requires strong people management skills and abilities. Requires diversified work experience as a plant mechanic, stationary engineer, boiler operator, or refrigeration mechanic and the ability to demonstrate advanced skills in the field of plant operations.Ability to read and interpret blue prints, specifications and related contract regulatory documents. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of building codes, regulatory requirements, materials and standards. Must have strong mathematical abilities to analyze, evaluate and compute costs, budgets and schedules. Requires strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications.Requires the ability to work safely and effectively with infrastructure and utility equipment. Must be able to work independently and effectively align resources to achieve system goals.Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and other related software programs.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSStrongly prefer an Associate's Degree in facility management or related field. Previous supervisory experience. Previous construction experience.Certified Healthcare Facility Manager. Other applicable/related certifications, licenses, and/or credentials.
