Overview

This position is responsible for providing informatics expertise and resources. As A Pharmacy resource, this position provides on-going informatics support for various teams and committees. This position supports the organization's vision and direction for computer systems, process design, data management and related processes. The Informatics Pharmacist not only serves as an informal on-site leader in the absence of the Director/Manager, as it relates to interactions with customer and facility leadership, but also liaison between the healthcare setting or specialty area clinical support staff and the IT Clinical Informatics team to communicate customer needs and facilitate system modification to meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise to the Informatics team, as well as expertise and guidance to the user community. Serves as a point person for work with the IT Clinical Applications and other Clinical Informatics teams, by assisting with provision of front-line application testing for system enhancements. Participates in post-implementation change evaluation and develops and implements action plans and supports customers in maintaining changed workflow and technological processes.
  • Expert Pharmacy resource to the Informatics team for complex issue investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution. Facilitates escalation to leadership or other teams for resolution. Provides advanced decision support. Develops, coordinates, facilitates, and plans on-going information system evaluation including customer accuracy, data integrity, and system reliability to support decisions and coordinate outcomes. Supports customers in their downtime preparation and recovery, and coordinates efforts with IT as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Education team to develop and improve training materials related to changes and upgrades in the existing EHR (electronic health record) and clinical application systems. Develops and implements communication and education plan in conjunction with clinical educators and management for current staff to assure changes to the EHR are implemented accordingly. May provide clinical application training.
  • Maintains on-going customer communication and support to assure customer competency. Collaborates with customers, account managers, providers, and clinicians to help define health care information issues and enhancement opportunities. Provides consultation and project support in conjunction with project leadership for the deployment of new IT clinical applications.
  • Supports staff in the use of existing technology in a manner which promotes maintenance of patient safety and confidentiality and supports entity specific and system-wide processes and principles. Collaborates with customers, leadership, and IT department to resolve conflicts between workflow and the information systems.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of Healthcare Informatics, as well as new developments in computer hardware and software technologies. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of pharmacy practices, regulatory standards, and organizational direction. Utilizes this knowledge in supporting customers and process teams.
  • Participates in facility and system interdisciplinary process improvement activities to identify potential future uses of the information systems and potential improvements in the current use of the systems. Function as a liaison regarding optimal EHR functionality. Collaborates with or escalates to other teams as needed to facilitate issues resolution.
  • Develops and evaluates the effectiveness of communication methods and processes. Regularly updates supervisor regarding current status, issues and trends related to the use of clinical information systems. Immediately escalates critical issues to leadership. Maintains a line of communication to all customers of clinical information systems.

Qualifications

  • Must possess diverse clinical knowledge and technology aptitude as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent related experience.
  • The incumbent will be a pharmacist with licensure in practicing state.
  • Requires a proficiency level typically attained with at least 7 years of pharmacy experience.
  • Must be proficient in the use of system office applications. Must possess a basic understanding of integrated clinical systems. Must have advanced interpersonal and critical thinking skills with the ability to prioritize needs rapidly.
  • This position requires the ability to convey messages and thoughts clearly to a diverse audience, using both verbal and written ability to coordinate information and activities, work under stress of deadlines and frequent interruptions, and to possess analytical problem-solving skills. Requires the maintenance of familiarity with clinical care processes and information technology. Must demonstrate ability to lead teams, assist in conflict resolution and manage complex issues within a group setting.
  • As is typical in this industry, variable shifts and hours, and on-call duties may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college/school of pharmacy
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
