Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools is Hiring a Spark Summer Camp Teacher Near Lincoln, NE

Are you ready for a fun summer working with kids? Do you enjoy exploring, wondering, and being creative with students? Are you someone who self-initiates and is comfortable working with students with a curious and caring approach. Are you organized, reliable, and a self-starter?

Then this summer position might be just right for you! We are having a summer program for kids to learn about STEAM (science, tech, engineering, art, and math) and have fun while doing it! Join the staff of Spark Summer Learning Camp as a guide/teacher.

This is a part-time, temporary, summer position with these specific timelines:

  • May training begins
  • Camp runs through beginning of August

A. Requirements:

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· Ability to work a regular weekly schedule during the summer.

· Desire to help children explore, create, wonder, and have fun (all while helping children learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics).

· Regular, dependable attendance is an essential function of this position.

B. Certification Requirements:

· Must already have or be willing to quickly obtain CPR and First Aid certification (see training section below)

· Must already have or be willing to quickly obtain a Food Handlers Permit (see training section below)

· Must fulfill one of the following:

· Must have or willing to get before employment:

  • Hold a GED and have 3 credit hours in early childhood education, education or child/youth development may be considered
  • Hold a valid state (Nebraska) Teaching Certificate and employed as a staff member OR used as a volunteer at a licensed school-age only center that is on the premises of an accredited or approved school OR;
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, early childhood education, or child/youth development OR;
  • Hold an associate degree from an accredited college or university in education, early childhood education, or child/youth development OR;
  • Hold a Child Development Associate Credential OR;
  • Have a high school diploma or GED AND 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for school-age children as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor

· Must have or willing to get before employment:

  • LPS Background Check
  • Nebraska Central Child Abuse and Neglect and Adult Protective Services Registry Confirmation of “No Record Found”
  • Nebraska Children’s Services Licensing Background and Fingerprint Check eligibility report.
  • Power to Protect Training

C. Experience Desired:

· Organized, energetic, excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Previous experience with teaching K-5 children in a formal classroom or informal setting

· 5 months experience in a camp counselor or similar role

· Background in and passion for one or more of the STEAM disciplines and interest in education (particularly interdisciplinary inquiry).

D. Training Availability:

· Regular availability for weekly training beginning March 13th

· Availability to complete CPR/First Aide Training (fees covered by FLPS)

· Availability to complete online food handling permit training (fees covered by FLPS)

REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Site Supervisor, Program Director, Program Assistant and FLPS President

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs the following tasks:

· Strong understanding of Spark Summer Learning policies and protocols

· Energetically work with children to explore, wonder, learn about science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics in age-appropriate activities and lessons. Work to ensure children are engaged in activities and having fun while learning.

· Work to create a fun learning environment while also maintaining appropriate discipline and a safe environment.

· Maintain safe learning environment for all children; include but not limited to:

  • Check-in/out children attending Spark program
  • Using streamlined camp software, maintain records of check-in/out process, including managing child absences
  • Provide daily updates to parents/guardians during check-in/out

· Work with appropriate staff and partners to design curriculum for one or more weeks according to STEAM area of expertise

· Assist in preparing and tear down for daily activities, projects, and meals

· Assist Site Supervisor on all field trips

· Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Works 30% of the time outdoors and 20% of the time offsite for field trips. Needs to be able to lift 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time. Uses fine motor skills and near vision regularly.

Pay: $19.00 per hour
