The Rhode Island Auditory Program in the Foster School Department is currently accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher for the summer program.POSITION: Special Education Teacher - RI Auditory Oral ProgramHOURS:Anticipated 1 hour per day, 3 days per week, during the RI Auditory Oral Program Extended School Year ProgramREPORT TO: RI Auditory Oral Program Director FUNCTION: To work as part of an instructional team to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in classroom and individual settings. Work in conjunction with teachers and related services personnel to provide implementation and evaluation of programming so support student’s needs in the areas of reading and math. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Provides individual instruction using a variety of appropriate instructional strategies, techniques and language in the areas of math and reading, to support the maintenance of skills as outlined in student’s Individualized Education Plan. Gather, maintain and monitor data about progress, achievement, and behavior of individual student.Identify behaviors and cognitive processing that interfere with learning and implement strategies to prevent and/or support positive social and academic behaviors. Use basic and student specific educational technology and assist student with the use of technology.Maintain confidentiality of student and support the teacher as contact for communication with families and others directly involved in that student’s education.Exhibit attributes of reliable attendance, promptness, dependability, and professional ethics.Use a cooperative approach by working as an effective team member (sharing strategies, techniques and materials).Use effective communication skills with students, colleagues, families and related agencies (spoken, written and non-verbal).Perform the functions of the position in accordance with the RI Professional Code of Conduct.Perform the functions of the position in accordance with all laws, regulations, school district policies, mission of the district, school-based plans, and administrative priorities.Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the classroom teacher, school and district administrators.
